In all my years Ive never needed to change a rear main seal till now. My 77 350 has sprun a big time leak. I was hoping it was a pan gasket but a brand new one piece gasket didnt even slow the leak down. Its literally running out. So to replace the rear main seal all I have to do is remove the rear journal and tap the top half around and out from behind the crank? any thing I need to know before doing it? Tricks? custom tools? andy good advice to make this as painless as possible. Thanks in advance.:D

Check your oil sending unit if the leak start over night they are bad about leaking all of the sudden had this happen to my truck except it exploded on start up.

Ouch! No, un fortunantly that's not the issue I installed a new sending unit a few months ago. but good thought!

Don't put the new one in flat to the bottom of the block. Stagger the joint. Helps stop a "break" line on the seal area.
