Rear pinion angle?

Im installing a 14ff and Im not 100% sure were to set pinion angle. I kinda remember that in needs to be the same degree as the t-case. Im going to be using the stock d-shaft. If any one knows the conversion joint P# off of the top of your head that would also be extremely helpful.

I dont remember for sure but you can just tell them that you want a 1350/1310 u joint and they have a chart right there at the desk to get the right part. You should aim your pinion angle about 1 degree down. This will help if you have axle wrap.
 
for a non cv rear shaft -
the angles should match...

If the tcase is 5 down, the rear should be 5 up...

edit - forgot that part... aim the axle down 1-2 degrees to compensate for axle wrap

Depending on the Transmission Tcase combo you wont need a conversion joint. If you have a 465 with 208 they are already 1350 unless readymix had an aftermarket shaft when he bought his truck:D cause his 14ff bolted right up.

Second if you do need a conversion joint it is not 1310-1350 it is S44 to 1350 and it is napa part number 447.

That's a big difference. Im runninig th350/205.
I just got off of the phone with napa and the p# is P447 at $30.60.

The case is pointed down 10 deg so I pointed the pinion up 10 deg. The fill plug looks to be level with the bottom of the axle tube. Im not sure the spindle bearings will get enough lube. Can any verify the angle?

If you set the sight line from the center of pinion about 1/4-1/2" below the Centerline of the u-joint on the t-case, all will be good. Use a 2' or 3' long level off the face of the diff yoke, works good...
 
Im not sure what you mean by sight line. (Filler hole?) Does it need to be a 1/4 t0 1/2 under centerline of the pinion yoke? Do I need to put the drive shaft back on? My t/case just has a yoke. I guess I just dont understand, it could be that I just woke up.:dunno:

Im bought the p447 joint today. Its got two different size caps and the smaller of the two is bigger than my existing shaft caps. I can however just swap the old caps on to the new joint and make it work. What do you guys think?
I also havent figured out the correct angle for the pinion yet.

Dont do that get the proper joint. The 447 is S44 to 1350 so you probably do not have an s44 shaft. It is similar in size to 1310 but it is not the same.

Kidjethro had a comparison post on here about the different joints all the way up to 1480. I will see if I can find it.

Got the pinion set parallel with the case yoke. I left the shafts out and filled the housing. The axle tubes have barely got any oil in them, its not even running out. I dont think this is enough oil to keep the wheel bearings lubed.
Maybe I should tilt the pinion up more. Maybe I should put the shafts in and jack up the pass side and fill the ****er.
Does any body have any ideas? Does anybody know what the stock pinion angle is with the stock spring pads clocked at 0 deg?

Jack up oneside and leave it for an hour or so to fill the hub. Refill the diff and repeat for the other hub, then refill the diff again. That will get the lube out there for the first time and as the ring gear rotates it will pick some up and transfer it down the shaft to the hub.
