Rear seat question

Hey all, just bought my first 1972 K5 yesterday, the back seat was stolen out of it so I need to get it replaced
My question is has anyone put in different seats, like say bucket seats out of the rear of a van oranything like that? I see where the front buckets have been replaced by Tahoe seats so just curious
 
Depending on how much work you wanted to do, I always thought that a later model flip-down, tumble forward seat would be a nice upgrade. Having to remove a fixed back seat every time you want to carry something large is a real hassle.

The only catch with the tumble forward seat is that you also need to weld in the floor pockets that have the latching mechanisms. Depending on your tools and skill set this might be an issue...

I am a newbie to all of this, just bought my 1972 the other day, I actually bring it home next tuesday, it is a bone stock, one owner vehicle. I have stuff in mind but it would help to see some other rigs and pick some brains...

I am up for meeting other CK5'ers anytime
 
If a cage is in your plans, you can mount pretty much whatever you want to it.
 
Honestly...I am not sure what is in the future for it yet :confused: :dunno:

This thing is all there down to the factory door lock knobs, I dont know if I want to dress it up to factory and then do minor mods to it...Seats, Stereo, Lift or go big with a cage, bumpers etc. I do not do much "hardcore" 4 wheeling so at this point I think I am going to look at it for a week or so and then decide what the hell I am going to do. With the condition it is in I dont want to do much that can't be undone "yet"....

My BIG problem stems from all of the CK5'ers on here...seeing everyone elses rigs on here is really a bad influence on a newbie like me :bow: :bow: :bow: :D
 
I think a GREAT first step is taking some good, clear photographs and posting them up here for the rest of us.

It's been so long since I've seen a complete, running K5 it would be a nice reminder! :haha:

Look at how many rigs get torn apart and then people lose interest or finances change. A few minor conveniences like the seats and stereo are great upgrades that may help you enjoy the blazer even more.

A stock K5 is good for off roading, when you get into lifting and more flexible suspension, then you end up hacking the body because the bigger tires rub and you find out that the stock steering doesn't work so well anymore. The list just keeps growing. A bunch of upgrades require fabrication which gets expensive if you can't do it yourself. Not to mention that the road worthiness is often sacrificed.

You just bought a 40 year old vehicle that was owned by one person. These old blazers and trucks are hard to find in good condition.

I think that you should DRIVE IT and ENJOY IT for a while before anything.:deal:

......The more I think about it the more I want to keep it stock (mostly) and get it looking pristine. I am going to do like NorCal suggested and drive it for a while...
I want a lift but am not sure if I should go with a 4" with a 2" body lift and run 35's on it or jsu a 4" with tires that are not going to rub or require any cutting...33's???? Ideas....I like the looks of the 6" and that is what I have always wanted but....I dont want to have to follow up with more stuff because of that because of the large tires...I am thinking about the old school white rims as well
At this point I am even thinking about a different mounting location for the stereo or getting one that I do not have to cut the dash.....
I was thinking about the Tahoe seat setup in it but I think I am just going to see what the stock seats are like, I may just get them re-done, the comfort would be nice but I am not going across country in it.

I will be looking for advice and suggestions on this...I really dont want to do anything that cant be undone...


Guess I will get her home and go from there.....I will post some picks next week
 
Update to my Blazer status....


Our deal (off Cragslist) was the Blazer for $4000. When I got there to look at it he said it needed a new transmission, new water pump, U-joints, belts and hoses (it has been sitting since 1997). He said he would take care of all of that without increasing the sale price..........and throw in a tune up
So today I call the PO (he still has the Blazer) as he is taking care of the things listed above.....he said he did not like the trani he was given to put in it as part of the sale, so he has it being rebuilt as we speak, he said he found some other things that needed fixed on it so he is taking care of those as well...NO PRICE CHANGE, he is just doing what he feels is right..:woot: :D :laugh: :waytogo: :woot:

He is a hell of a nice guy, he was also a mechanic for the City down here for 20 + years. I think I struck gold on this one

This may be proof that there are good people still out there, most people (unfortunately including me) would say "as is fool", off Craigslist no less..... I think he has sentimental value to this since his mom and dad bought it new in 72'

This is also proof that GOOD things don't just happen to GOOD people :whistle:..
 
lol, careful you don't get a woody for this guy until you drive the truck another 5,000 miles. You never know what his fixes look like.
I would say put your money into making it completely reliable first. Have everything gone through and drive it for several months first. If something is going to take a dump on you, you should try your best to have it happen asap. This way you can fix or upgrade that part.

this way you don't throw all you money at a lift and tires, when 2 weeks later the engine throws a rod:doah: Then you have a lifted paperweight and possibly no money to fix it.
 
A little wood is OK....just comparing to other items I have seen sold on CL....I gotta have faith man...until I am on the recieving end of that wood.....
