I don't know if it is just me or not, but neither me 78, nor my 85 (of course since it is a CUCV) had a headliner in the rear. I've never seen this in photos either (although not many show the rear) but can anyone tell me if they ever had them?

Regardless of that though, has anyone custom done anything to cut down on the noise by coating/carpeting the rear shell?

Thanks

Never had any kind of headliner in the topper. It's doubtful that even doing some sort of headliner would reduce any noise (it's not like figerglass has an issue with rattles and it's already a good insulator).

I would think anything softer than the fiberglass would help kill the echo from back there, as soft insulation type stuff absorbs sound waves.

I will probably do some sort of headliner on the inside of my top in the future, more for the feel than anything else. I think the headliner will just make the whole truck feel more luxurious if that word can even be put in the same sentence with a blazer

Luxury is in the eye of the beholder?

What have you been thinking of doing for yours? I think I know what kind of padding/carpet I want to use, but have been drawing blanks at how to "trim" it without going all the way down the sides (which I guess is a good option.)

Not exactly sure, I have kind of been looking at different ways to end it so it looks like a headliner instead of like I just covered the whole top with cloth, haven't found a decent way yet. I may just use some stuff I have and try to maybe fold the edge back and stitch and glue it on there but not sure if that will look decent or not

I am going to use headliner cloth though.

Well, when you get it sorted, photos please? :)

It'd certainly help me figure out how I'm going to end up doing it.

And FYI, I wasn't thinking "house like carpet" but more along the lines of the headliner cloth or the short pile automotive stuff for the floor.

You planning on doing some sort of backing too? Or just glue it to the fiberglass?

Probably just glue it to the fiberglass. I will do it to my half cab first to see if I can get it looking decent. Later on when I do the full vert swap I will do it to the full topper.

Nice thing is if you use headliner cloth its actually pretty cheap. I am going to use the headliner that has the foam backing on it.

I am planning to do some panels to fill a lot of the topper open areas. They will be light luan panels with either cloth or leather to match my interior. Heavy epoxy to attach them to the fiberglass and certain areas will be left exposed but painted. Unfortunately it is a ways down my list since, as blazinzuk can attest, I have a tub in my garage that needs to be prepped, painted, interior installed, wired, and then finally installed in place of the rusty heap that is on there now.

what is that? some sort of felt? looks good.

No not felt, but something like rug. after painting the blazer white then setting the shell on, the color of the inside of the shell looked bad compared to the out side white, I had to do something. Removed the shell again and trailered it to the upholstery shop. When I seen it I was so happy, it gave a comfortable feeling and to me just looked beautiful.

Thank you,
Ed

Ever take the top off. I would love to see some more pics of it with the top off.

That looks great
