Detroit... well almost
I tried to check at 2 GM dealers for rear side window rubber (mine leak)... and neither of them said they could get the rubber anymore.

I've heard LMC stinks. Anybody replace theirs or have recommendations?

I'd suggest you talk to your local glass guy. I happen to keep mine on speed dial, and he knows where to go just by the last name, without even hearing the address.:doah:

Update: I found a dealer who said he could obtain the needed seals from another dealer in Louisiana (existing stock). He also said that the right hand is the same as the left hand side/rear seal. It's not, so I'm not sure what's up with that... dealers seem to be no help.

Guy I know at local glass replacement place said that if dealers don't have it, he could only suggest online search.

Classic Industries doesn't carry them anymore... don't have many other leads at this point.

Just the passenger side leaks. Seems like it might be damaged near the "groove" that the glass sits in by the way it feels (overly "flexible" in some spots... not like the driver side which doesn't leak).

I'm leaning toward giving the LMC seal a try on one side of the vehicle as I don't have alternatives...

I am not sure why the seals wouldn't be the same left to right, everything I have found says that they are in fact the same. The windows wouldn't be any different from side to side, and their attachment wouldn't be different either. LMC shows that they are the same regardless of which side, and I don't know of any instance where GM would have different seals on identical windows.

My personal experience with LMC weatherstrip says to get the dealer stuff. It will be far superior to anything you will get from LMC, even if it costs a bit more.

Remember that these seals may appear different because of the shaping of each side, but they are a flexible rubber seal with a lock strip. They are not preformed to the shape of the window opening, they are only manufactured to the length required.

I did not realize that this was the case. Mine really do look different. In the lower rear corner (sharp corner where the clip goes in to tie the "molding strip" together). They look right and left handed to me.:dunno:

Guess I'm just crazy. :o

Leaky side window seal... and it's consequences.

Okay. I think I realized my stupidity. There is a sharp corner in the rubber for the window... but that does not mean it is right and left handed. doh!

Ordered from dealer. Not many left guys, get 'em while you can.

Carpet was all soggy... insulation wet... musty. So I tore her down and am putting back together using knowledge I learned on CK5!

I just couldn't watch you pass on a good set of factory moldings because of confusion. Glad you got them!

You could check LMCs part number listing and see if it is that same part.

They are the same part. I got two from my dealer... he had to have them shipped from Louisiana and California. These things are hard to come by OEM.

Nice Burb! Is that flat grey you used on the rear floor or a coating of some kind.

Thanks!

That is spectrum water based undercoating. It can be painted, seems to be durable, oil resistant... just takes a long time to cure. IMO it should be AT LEAST 2mm thick and it really does deaden the sound. There's a closeup below... you can see how thick the stuff can go on (I used brush and roller, but it can be sprayed).

Interior will go back in soon, but someday, maybe it will come out in favor of bedliner topcoat.

Well, I finally got the window seal in... what a pain. Need 2 people and several trim sticks IMO. Lots of soapy water to put in the molding strip.

I just saw that the new seal does not properly seat in the upper rear corner of the window (near the body seam on the passenger side. Seems someone was gettin' a little cheeky with the caulk lineside. I scraped some away and gooped with sealant... wish I would have found this sooner so I could have addressed it when the glass was out.. I'll test it tonight at the carwash. There's reference pics below of driver and passenger side... as well as an indication of where it was leaking from.

So... this thing is still leaking the same as before.:doah:

Water is coming up between the glass and the rubber for sure. I thought that was weird.

Anybody know if I should use some type of sealant between the glass and the rubber? RTV?

I know on my rear windows they have a sealer that is used between the rubber and the mount itself. My windshield was also done this way when I had it replaced with the seal earlier this year.

That factory seal had a adhesive/sealer built into both sides of the channel on the sheet metal side. I don't think it's leaking there. I'll check with the glass guy to see what he recommends when I get a chance.

At least on mine, there was no sealant anywhere except at the metal/fiberglass contact point. The windows themselves are sealed by the lock strip, and shouldn't allow water around them unless there is a variance in the glass that allows it by the rubber.

That's how it seemed they should work. I'm wondering if my glass is out of spec... or cut bad.

Just seems unlikely to me that the glass is to blame. I guess I'm pulling this seal again.:doah::(
