Rear sway bar

These brackets and sway bar came off a C20 SRW 14ff. They are held to the axle with the U-bolts that point up. U-bolt, bracket, 14ff, spring, top plate then nuts and washers. The bar mounts to the bottom side of the brackets then goes under the axle and the link ends up to the frame.

EDIT: I thought about something today and measured so i could correct myself. This sway bar set-up must have came from a C20 and not a C30 as i originally stated since the spacing of the brackets were at 42.5" and not 40.5" like a C30 would have been. This would also verify that it was from a SRW and not a DRW.

Jim, I'll keep you in mind. Can you get a pic of these brackets up? I'm betting they will be slightly larger than the 14FF brackets due to the 70's tube diameter being 4".

They'll work, that's the set up I have on my 14 bolt (one off of a D70HD). The holes in the sway bar bracket are made oblong from the factory to fit both apps. :wink1:

Great to hear that, John! Is the bar the same as Scott's picture above? Do you have a picture of how the links are mounted to the frame rails?

My bar is very similar to the one pictured but there is a little difference. The biggest thing I noticed is the shape of the bars from the bend to the forward end, mine has a more pronounced bend about 1/3 the way forward of the axle. If I had to bet, I'd say it'd probably work.

I'll shoot some pics this evening.

Ok Wes, here's your pics...

Here's my best "complete" pic in the daylight -

The u-bolt "cradles" are original to the truck/axle but the sway bar & mounting plates are from a late 70's C30 dually w/ D70HD. My end links are stuff I put together - B7 grade all thread cut to length with Energy Suspension bushings I found searching the back of their catalog (physical size chart).

The set-up i have mounts the same way but it doesn't hang down that low but it does require the U-bolts instead of the upside down square bolts.

Great pics! A word of discovery; the "U-bolt cradles" from a 14FF are completely different than those from a D70HD--I found this out this afternoon looking for the plates for Wes. I have both styles; so if you want them let me know which axle you need them for.

I like those fins on your 14FF.

I may as well get Jimbo's brackets and see if I can get Scotts bar to work with them as well.

You mean the big brackets under the u-bolt plates? How are they different?

And yes, I'm interested in a pair you have to fit a 14FF on my '85 K30.

No, the swaybar brackets are the same; the axle or u-bolt cradles are different. They are stamped steel on the 14FF, and are cast iron on the D70HD.

Ok, got that now. I don't need either of those then. I am interested in the sway bar brackets though. Shoot me a PM with your asking price along with a shipping quote to my zip listed in my avatar. And your Pay Pal addy, too.

BTW, whats the tubing bar diameter on these rears? I wanna check out polyurethane bushings for them.

The cradles i have that came off a 14ff are cast iron and not stamped steel. In one of the pics you can clearly see the casting number and maybe you can do a search of that number and see what you come up with. They fit the 14ff that i currently have sitting in my garage as well.

You are referring to the brackets you have which use upright u-bolts. The brackets i have been referring to are for the upside down u-bolts; the 14FF uses the same stamped steel as found on CUCV's, and the D70HD uses cast iron brackets which are completely different from the 14FF ones. I'll try to get pics of the different ones tomorrow.
Jimbo

So you're saying that the 14ff has 2 different styles? The upside down style with square bolts uses a steel bracket?

Yes, the upside down u-bolt style uses a steel bracket. I have pics of both styles now if I can only figure out how to upload them, or can email them.

Jim, got your plates today. I'm impressed. New Mexico has good rust free parts down there, eh? Thanks again!

Wes, strange story on those plates; I needed a D70HD for a project, and a friend had one under a work truck. I had a 14FF dually rear to trade, and did the swap for him. In the process of swapping, it was discovered the swaybar was cracked, and therefore was not re-installed. I saved the plates for future use-23 years ago.
Ya know, I never even thought about rust till I joined this board and began paying attention to the pictures and complaints. I can't even begin to express how spoiled I am. Rust simply isn't an issue down here.

I swear if I didn't have kids, I would be packing my bags and moving somewhere down south away from this crappy flatland state.
