I was going to put this in the body shop but, there is always more people in here. I put in a new tail pan (LMC) and I need to replace part of the floor.
1. The bottom of my rear post where rotted out the attach to the pan. I made an L bracket and welded it on. Do I need to brace it anywhere else, or will my bracket and the floor be strong enough to keep it from bending?

2. I am going to use flat steel to replace parts of the floor. What is the best way to do this? Make the edge of the original floor flat and butt them together and weld them or over lap. Do I need to weld the whole joint or do I spot weld and use seem sealer?

Please do not make fun of my welding. This is the first thing I have ever welded and I didn't have anyone there to give me pointers.
I wire wheeled the frame and every thing was primed and 2 coats of under coating.

And bye the way... I HATE YOU SOUTHER K5 OWNERS... RUST SUCKS..

Sorry was a bitt distracted....:D
I also had my share of rust.... Keep up the good work!:waytogo:

It looks good and solid, I prob would have done the same thing. Not that I'm a pro-bodyman or anything, but I have done my share of rust repair. Doesn't have to be pretty as long as it's nice and strong. Make sure you coat the backside of your repairs with something. A good gooey runny oil based undercoating or something.

Im so glad that my michigan truck is a survivor of THAT! (rust)

i ran flat 1/8 plate up to the corrugated floor as a temp till i did the rest of the floor... i just tucked it under the corrugated a bit, migged it in the low spots, then seamsealed the raised gappy areas... not sure i'd recommend that for a permanent repair, but it got me by for 6 months without leaking...

I like my avatar also.. I have been priming the front and back of the new peices with rustoleum rust reformer and then a couple of coats of undercoating. I made some good progress on replacing the floor yesterday. I will post more pictures later.

Ryoken, I did pretty much the same thing except I flattened the edge of the original floor and fully welded the seam.

Got some more work done on tuesday. It's been raining ever since. I did manage to put a whole in my gas tank while trying to get it bolted back in so I could park it back on the street. Well I atleast its leaking gas in the street now :frown1: . I ordered a new one, should be here in a few days.
