So my tailgate is all f'ed up and I was thinking about replacing or repairing it, but as we all know it will just break again. So I just thought of something that would be awesome. Swap in a pickup tailgate and make a window out of lexan that would be like a truck topper. Anybody ever seen this done or have any ideas on how to make this happen? Im tired of the heavy ass K5 tailgate, but its cold in the winter here so I need some way to have a window.

softtop rear window put on a stock top w/ tailgate from a pickup?

Would you mind loaning me about $700? I cant afford that chit! Obviously that is the easy most expensive way out possible. I need something home brewed and realistic. Thanks though

least expensive option is to leave it the way it is obviously.

next option is to have a sheet of plexi or lexan cut to the exact same dimentions and slide it up into the window channel in the top, put a strip of rubber across the bottom and close the tailgate under it to keep it in place. that way its removeable if you want to.

other option is to permanantly mount the lexan or plexi in place with some sort of glue or epoxy.

other than that, gotta pay to play my friend. 700 bucks and a pickup tailgate is probably where im gonna go once i save up my pennies.

If it's too heavy, you probably just need to replace the torque rod. That is what helps you close it and make it not feel so heavy.

Otherwise, trying to jury rig something is probably going to be a lot of wasted time, effort, and money and will have poor results. Remember, if you have an open rear window - even just a crack - carbon monoxide may come in from the exhaust and cause you some real serious issues!

The issue is not that its too heavy. There is a little platic bushing that holds the track together and that broke. I am tired of having to fix the POS tailgate they designed so I want another option that isnt going to cost an arm and leg.

Thread Revival....

excact same situation here. stock tailgate rusted beyond use. found a excellent shape P/U tailgate. need to home brew up a way to keep a back window. my though was to use the rear hatch glass from any P/U truck cap and modify that to fit my fullvert fiberglass top on the rear. In a way that would mimick 1st generation top.

Save the Fullverts!!! my rust http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=299561
