I picked up a Gentex 177 mirror for the '85 Suburban and can someone give me a measurement on where to glue the mount? Mine doesn't have any glue or other old mark that I can find to go off of. Thanks for the help?

I'll take care of you tomorrow if the question is not answered. Too cold.

It depends on your height, as you can put it where the mirror head covers the mount from your view as sitting in the seat. Most usually put it at the bottom of the shade band, centered.
Make sure that you have the correct mounting tab for the mirror, I found that out after getting my mirror.

hope it holds for you.. i have the worst luck with em...

i'm anal about doing it right, try to get a quality glue, yet I've had quite a few fail at some point.. usually it'll be on for a yr or something, than one hot summer day, it'll just fall off... :yikes: :angry1:

My luck is the same Ryoken..
The only mirror mounting tabs that have never come off on me,are the ones I stupidly installed upside down !-:doah:---it threatened to bust the glass when I attempted to pry them back off,so I had to get another mounting tab from a junkyard and glue it on top of the one mounted wrong...and the next 90 degree day,I found the mirror lying on the carpet--of course the other tab was still holding firm!..

I used the radio antenna wire connector in the original windshield that has a built in antenna ,as a guide to find the center of the windshield...

Well it is on for now and it was nice having it coming to work. Now I have to hook up the temp sensor and calibrate the compass.

gluing them on with silicone (ultra grey) has been working quite well for me. clean both sides with brake clean, and a little silicone on both parts to make sure it sticks to both good.

someone else told me that.. to be honest, it seemed weird to me, being that stuff dries so flexible.. but that may be helping it I guess...

I'll second silicone. I fought with those little mirror bastards for years in the south. I had a windshield replaced in my CUCV and the "Glass Doctor" came out to install a new one. He had the little mounts and applied a little dab of clear silicone on the mount. Put it in the factory spot and smeared it around a little in a circle. he said the suction of the silicone was what held it on forever. Piece of tape to hold it till it dried and it lived for nearly five years when I sold my last beloved CUCV. Of course I had to ask the question since he had just installed my new windshield that wasn't there some special super glue they applied them with and he said that there was but the clear silicone worked much better. It only took a dab about the diameter of a pencil. Done and DONE.
