Before I start rippin' and tearin' does anyone have any ingenious ideas for pulling bearings out of a K10 12 bolt rear without a slide hammer?
Cuz I got zero slide hammers and zero deposit to put on a rent-a-tool at the parts store.
I only have money when I'm too busy to do the jobs never when I'm sitting home for days. Luckily I already bought the bearings and seals.

Just done the rear of my blazer and had the same problem. I got a bolt about 4-6 inches long with the same thread size and a big flat washer. Slide a 5 or 10 pound weight on the bolt with the washer on the head end. Screw the bolt to the puller and you have a cheap puller.

Pull the carrier and run a piece of pipe from one side to the other. Smack with hammer. Easy peasy.

Thanks guys, I'll be doing something like one of your methods in the morning depending on what I can find in my junkpile

Wednesday morning I had the pleasure of a front bearing eating itself, had to call the wife to pick up the bearing and my generator to grind off the meltwelded inner ring.
Figured I'd beat the rear bearing to the punch after I noticed gear oil in my drum. I'd call doing the rear seals and bearings a NON side of the road project :eek1:

I've taken all the "log" rollers out of the bearing, leaving just the outer race in the axle tube, and used either my cutting torch to heat up the race in 3 spots,or the arc welder to lay 3 spot welds in the center of the race--after it cools it will shrink enough to come out easily..beats slide hammering and crowbars ,or having to rig up some type of a puller..

I've had to use the torch to cut a slot in the outer race on a few that defied other methods..the race will get red hot almost instantly and blow away when you pull the trigger,so fast the axle tube itself barely heats up...
I have a torch with a small enough cutting head to put it in behind the bearing race,so no slag gets blown into the tube or diff..

I have also used a dremel tool to cut a slit in the outer race, then finish by whacking it with a cold chisel..wear goggles, usually the race just cracks and closes up enough to be removed with your fingers, but a chunk could fly off it too..

Thanks Diesel. I wish I had torch! I've got a dremel, some assorted pieces of all thread/washers etc and a townhouse parking spot for a shop.....resident problem child, remember?:doah:

Haven't got into yet after all, gotta buy the brake shoes and a few other " might as wells" later today. Probably have enough for the rental tool deposit now too.

And of course they're milling and paving parking pads in my development just in case I hit a snag and have to leave it sit a day or two
