Rear window regulator cable broke actually shredded. Cant use at all. Any body ever used anything other than the cable to get the window up and down? Lmc will take awhile to ship, and none of the junk yard want to sell one(whole tailgate only). Ive got a rear window halfway down on a daily driver and storms on the way. Any help would be great. Was thinking maybe a weedeater drive shaft?

I didn't know they used a cable with the power window in the back, my manual one was a sissor style, but in any way, just take the mechanism off the window and raise it and put a screw in the frame just under it so it stays in place until you get the parts.
There is a hole ready close enough to where you need it.

Thanks for the input, but what iam really looking for is ideas for something to use as the cable so thaf I could roll the window up and down untill parts arive. Someone has to have some crazy quick fix to get you by in a pinch

If the cable is messed up, it's messed up.
The best I can think of is when my Jeep wagoneer tailgate window was giving me trouble like that I opened the gate and rolled the window up to within an inch or so, then closed the gate and I was able to get the last inch to go up into the grove.
You could try that, it's easier when there is no weight against it.

Is the end a speedometer cable end? Haven't had one apart in awhile, but it would make sense.

Without the right part (or one that replicates it), can't think of anything you can use without destroying the mechanism.

Haven't had one apart in awhile . . .

Could you take some pics so we know what you need to connect to. Is it the male or female square end you need to connect to?
I was thinking a square end socket with a flexible extension on it but that would probably take a while to operate. :eek1:

Yes its like a spedo cable, round braided cable thru the center and square on each end

The cable loops back up underneath the glass as I recall, with the motor up "front".

You'd need a cable long enough to reach under the glass (when it's down) and connect on that end to get any movement out of the glass. Pretty unlikely, unless you have enough cable to make that distance, and chuck the end of the cable in a drill.

Any option I can think of is a lot of extra work, more work than just climbing over the back seat to get to the cargo area until you get the cable.

While skimming through the LMC catalog I just noticed on pg 47that the burb rear window has the motor connected directly to the regulator, much like the electric door windows. Is there a reason why it isn't like this on the Blazer/Jimmy?

This power window has been nothing but a pain in the rear since the first day, what would be the pros and cons of just scraping this power gate and getting a manual window gate

Hmm, good point. It seems like the burb tailgate is slightly different shaped, but I can't imagine so much so that the same idea couldn't be implemented.

Only thing I can think of is that maybe the burb didn't have a manual crank available? Thats the only possible reason I can think of, short of the gate being too much different. Still doesn't seem likely, I would have expected a hand crank being the "base" on the burb too, with the electric as the option.

Power windows can be a bit of a hassle, but I find I do use it once in awhile...perhaps not as much as the hassle it brings. :)

Can't really think of a downside to the hand crank, except the handles break off sometimes, probably when forced. That has more to do with the condition of the window components than the crank methinks.

One of the pros of manual is that someone couldn't break into your truck in about 30 seconds. :ignore:

Well if they really want in they will get in, locks just keep honest people honest, but I have never locked it anyway, dont see the point when the windows are worth more than the contents in the truck

What am I missing on the electric windows and theft? Break the window and they can open the tailgate, where the manual won't open unless it's unlocked?

Never dealt with the manual cranks.

If you'd like to post your email addy I'll tell you, but only because you've been on here forever and I know you won't use it the wrong way.
