I replaced the rear window (tailgate) motor b/c my last one just stopped working. Even with the new one the window is VERY slow and stops often. It will not start back until i take my finger off the button and then try again. Anyone else know of this problem? any ideas? thanks.

Here's a list of things to check and should keep you busy for a while.

Grease the cable that attaches to the motor (inside it)
Clean and grease the regulator and tracks that the window rides on
Window guides inside tailgate may need to be replaced/dirty
Make sure the window guides are in allignment
Window seal in the hard top may need to be replaced/dirty
Inner and outer rubber guides in the tailgate that the window rides against may be hard and need to be replaced
Wires may be corroded internally and need to be replaced

BTW: do you still have the old motor? If you do could I possibly get it?

yup, that should keep me busy.

and if I had the old motor I'd give it to you but - it's gone. Sorry and thanks.

Clean/replace the switch/button

contact resistance as Spearchucker said is most likely the problem if all the mechanical stuff passes muster.

Check your voltage at the tail gate, both while running the windo and while not running the window.

If you notice the window works faster with the engine running, you may want to run larger wires to the gate. The complete harness is not that hard to copy with larger wires.
Running my window was scary and now I am trying to rig a window independant of the tailgate.
