My rear window won't go down or up with the switch. It will if I put a drill on the cable. I have power to the switch and power to the two wire connection in the tailgate at the motor. The ground seems fine. I tried running a wire from the positive terminal in the battery to the connections and got nothing but sparks. Also when I was trying to test the switch and I jumped the terminals in the plug I got sparks. What am I doing wrong? Is the motor bad? Thanks for any help.

Do you have switches in the cab and on the back tailgate? Which one, or are both switches not working?
I don't know about the key switch on the tailgate. I don't have a key for that. The switch on the dash will get power to the connector on the motor. I checked it with a test light.

If you applied 12V directly to the motor contacts, in both directions, and got sparks and no movement, sounds like a shorted motor.
Lets get a second opinion

Are you connecting positive and negative to the two terminals on the motor? If so that’s a dead short! Both of the terminals are positive and the motor casing is the ground. Depending on which terminal you put the positive will determine which direction the motor turns.
