Hi all, I did a few different searches but couldn't find what I was looking for. My rear window is stuck in the closed position, and I can't figure out how to get it down. The handle just spins freely, and I was unable to see why it isn't grabbing from looking inside the tailgate.

Any ideas or help would be great: Can the window be rolled down some other way without using the handle? If I have to take it apart, what would I do after I remove the 4 -11mm bolts from the regulator plate inside the tailgate?

:dunno:

The service manual shows a "clutch" and spring loaded pawl on the hand crank. Maybe the pawl is broken? With the window up, maybe you can get to the bolts that hold the handle assembly to the tailgate? I've never had that issue (yet) so I'm really just guessing and looking at the service manual. No help in the manual.

Obvious guy!

I don't mean to come across as captain obvious, but are you sure it's fully unlocked? Mine used to fool me all the time. I'd think I had turned the key far enough but it hadn't engaged yet.

I use to have to turn the key while cranking it back and forth to get the key to engage the part that catches the crank to let it roll down/up.

Hey Coldpunk

You may be right about the key not engaging , and probably are...The window crank had been working just fine, until the day I decided to lock it with the key. Now it seemed no matter which way I turn the key and/or handle it doesn't engage. Is the key cylinder supposed to come out all the way?- When I turn the key all the way to the left the whole thing comes out.

I will go out and try to mess with it some more...

Thanks British for the information. Knowing how the handle engages the regulator (clutch/pawl) would help a lot. Unfortunately I cant seem to figure out how to get to the handle bolts or how to take any of it apart. Just 4 bolts on the inside that hold the regulator assembly in place, and the whole thing (window and all) drops down a few inches when those bolts are removed, but it still seems to be attached somehow and can't see back in there to figure out how to take it apart. Is a real pain in the A$$ to bolt it back together too, so didn't want to remove those bolts again unless I was sure that's the way to check for broken parts.

As a last resort to getting the window down in one piece, You could remove the bolts that connect the window tracks on the bottom of the glass to the regulator arms. They are 7/16 and there are 4 of them, and a pain because they are so close to the tailgate skin, especially when up.it will fall when you get the 2 out so be careful with those hands.
