Greetings from Virginia! I’m new here and have a question about the rear window safety switch. I’m having rear window issues and have gotten a new on off on switch for the dash (not oem) and have a new regulator cable. When I press the switch the window motor makes a light “clicking” noise so I know I have power from switch to motor. Plus I checked it with a continuity tester and have power to the motor. My question is is the clicking noise happening because the safety switch is stuck and blocking signal to the motor? Or would it not make noise at all? Just wondering if I bypass the safety switch would that enable my motor to operate. Hope I explained that good enough. Thanks in advance for any help!

I don't think you'd hear much from the switch as it's just mechanically opened/closed, but they do tend to cause issues. You can temporarily jump it's terminals to see if that fixes it.

If my window is stuck (safety already bypassed) I get a pretty solid clunk, definitely not a click.

Played with it some more today and I think the safety switch is functioning properly. When the tailgate is up and I move the dash switch up or down, the window motor “clicks” but with the tailgate open it does nothing so I’m thinking the motor is bad. I have power to the dash switch, power to the motor plug. The motor just won’t “turn over” so to speak.

Make sure all the connections are good, you can move the window easily with the drive cable chucked to a drill, etc. Could be motor, they do fail, but could be ground, or a number of other wiring issues too.

The motor doesn’t operate with the tailgate open - that’s what the safety switch is for. It’s so when the gate is down, if someone rolled the window ‘up’ the window would break due to its weight. How does it function using the key at the tailgate?

I used a test light at the motor and have power to the motor. Now it’s power to the blue wire but not the white and brown. I assume that’s the ground?

That’s basically what he said, that the safety switch is good and working based on his testing.

did you use a test light for voltage or a voltmeter at the motor? What is the voltage to the motor?

but with the tailgate open it does nothing so I’m thinking the motor is bad

Basically what he said, as I understand it, is he tried the window with the gate down and it did nothing so he’s blaming the motor. See quote above.
