Rear window stops 1" from top when rolling up? How to adjust?

So my rear window works fine, except it stops about 1" from the top when I roll it up. As a result, water and exhaust comes in. :( I can push the glass all the way up into the channel with my hands, but as soon as I drive any bump causes the glass to drop back down so that it's cracked open again.

Is there a way how to adjust the height of the glass as it goes up, or is there something that may be broken or missing which is causing this? I looked at the gears and such and don't see anything obvious...

I searched but unfortunately can't find anything on how to adjust the height of the glass (but boy, there are a lot of people having other problems!)

Oh yeah, I should add - after I have manually pushed the glass up, the window won't roll back down until it either gets bumped down or I push it down back into the gears (I assume.)

could be the gears, one problem I had was once the channel that holds the glass got rusty and popped open it would get caught on one of the bolts going up. I'd have to push in and up on the glass to get it over. I bought the new channel from LMC replaced it and it worked until the back window got busted!

These days I need the new barrel switch and the motor has gotten weak, after I got new glass in it!

I can see what you mean by that, but mine isn't getting caught on anything. It's easy to slide it up or down the last inch, it's just not in the gears any more.

Any idea on how to adjust those gears to go all the way up?

Oh, BTW, thanks for the suggestion for LMC. They have an AMAZING assortment of parts!!!

I am going to spend too much money on this thing, I can see it now... :doah:

SOLUTION:
The problem was two-fold.

First, the bolts to the gear box where the rotating cable ends which mounts to the window assembly were loose. This caused the gear box to sit slightly downwards and when the window was rolled all the way up, the gear would move away from the toothed arm and lose contact.

Second, the tab which holds the toothed arm close to the gear had bent away from the assembly, which also allowed movement.

Those two factors meant that as the window reached the top, the gearbox moved away from the toothed arm assembly and stopped working. Tightening the bolts and hammering the tab down a bit ensures the gear always contacts the toothed arm and the window works fine now. :D
