Is possible? I would like to tint film the rear window and think it would be a lot easier with the window in the up position with the tailgate down. Is there a trick to doing this? Thanks! It is an '88 Jimmy with electric rear window.

You can take the top off and do it I guess

you could unhook the cable from the motor to the window and use a cordless drill to make it go up. i had to do this because my motor is no longer strong enough to move the window up or down.

They don't all move up/down with the tailgate down? Guess my saftey switch thing was bad in the Blazer :D Never supported mine while I had the tailgate down and the glass all the way out when I was greasing up the tracks and movable parts.

So I guess my real question is how do I bypass the safety switch to allow the window to roll up with the tailgate in the open position? Thanks for the replys!

Just take the rear tailgate cover off and you'll see the cable going into the motor. Unscrew it from the motor and turn the internal cord within the cable. It has a square end to it and pretty easy to do. I just put a small vise grip on the end and twisted it until the window came all the way out.

Definitely support it though with the tailgate down.

Bypassing the safety switch is much easier. Disconnect it from the latch, then jumper the two terminals together. Done.

The safety switch is on the right hand side just inside the cover plate. Unhook it and wirenut the wires together. I did this on both my burbs and my k5. 1 burb the switch went bad. The other it just was easier to change the window that way. k5 I was bored.

edit too slow again

just let the tail gate down close the latches on both sides.use the key to make the window go up.make sure you support the window.orprop the tail gate open a couple inches then use the key to make it go up .No need to take anything apart.

+1

There is no wiring needed because the safety switch is part of the latch. Just open the tailgate, and flip the latch in on the D.S. of the tailgate. Now the window works normally. Just be careful to support it with something.

But if you want to tear the wiring apart, feel free. You'll have to open up the tailgate to unbolt the glass from the track anyway. I don't think you want the bottom edge of your tint film rubbing on the seal when you're done.

The easy way to do this is to buy one of those wire tap "vampire" do-dads, open it up, then trim out the inside where it is supposed to block the end of a single wire (it's a little "edge" in one of the wire paths), then put it on both wires and snap it closed with some pliers. It's a 30 second fix and is easily reversed.

Those things are the debil.

There is a big benefit to bypassing the failure prone switch... you are bypassing the failure prone switch:waytogo:
