Rear Window

The cable that runs from the motor on the tailgate window came loose from where ever it goes (to the regulator?) inside the tailgate. My Chiltons doesn't show this.

Help. It's starting to get cold here in Colorado.

Some Help

Open the tailgate, lay it horizontally. Take the inside tailgate panel off, (usually with screwdriver). Should be able to see the geardrive and where the cable attaches from the electric motor. If detached, I usually attach cable to an drill so that I can now manipulate the window up and down. Once you got that figured out either reattach, or if not working quite right. Close tailgate with inside tailgate panel removed. Roll window up from inside. Should tide you over till you can get the electric motor and geardrive up and running again.

Well that's the thing, I cannot see where the cable attaches. I have used the screwdriver thing, which went fine until the bloody cable came off from whereever it goes after leaving the motor.

In my case it was the screws came loose, where it's holding the gear box a the non-motor end of the cable to the gear arms. I opened my tailgate, pulled the glass up/used the motor to get the glass all the way up onto a stool with a pillow on it. Then with the glass all the way up you can see the other end of the cable. It's just a little box with 4 screws in it. Mine had come loose so the gear wasn't engaging. Tighten the screws.

It could help if I could figure out how to get the glass to move- the window is lowered almost all of the way.

I believe there is a lock-out switch that prevents the glass from going up/down when the tailgate is open. If you jump the wires, or hold down the switch (?) then you can do it. Mine was spliced together near the drivers side inside the tailgate. I think!

Quinryan, What you can do is remove the four bolts from the bottom of the glass that connects it to the rest of the contraption and pull the glass right out.

Not to sound too slow, but these bolts are at the bottom of the glass on the metal strip attached to the regulator, right?

Yes, those are the ones that hold the glasss to the regulator.

First with the tail gate down just lock the latches with a screwdriverso the switch thinks the tailgate is closed. With the inner panel off, find the cable. There is a black box mounted behind the handle, the cable goes from it to the regulator. If you cann't get the glass to move you can take the 4 bolts loose and pull it out from the regulator then find the box. The cable looks like a speedo cable, should screw on to the box and has a twist clip thing on the end to the regulator.It is perrty simple once you get your hands on it and see how it works.
