Re: Rebel88\'s Condition...UPDATED WED 11/12 8 AM
Just got a email from Eddies mom. Thanks Mudhog for telling me to send the link to her, she liked it alot. Anyways heres the email.
Oh my goodness. It's 4 am and I was checking to see if any of Eddie's friends had written (it's my therapy) and came upon this gift. I had no idea that you'd never met
Eddie, I'm just answering IMs in order to get the word out. You and all the K5er are amazing, now I can see why you all are his second family. Words cannot express the gratitude I have for all your thoughts and prayers. I also apologize for not giving more details. My thinking is a little dis-jointed right now. Here goes:
He was coming home and had made it about half way probably traveling at a fairly decent clip. He came upon a deer or maybe a herd and probably swerved to miss them because he nailed one in the opposite lane and dragged it a ways then went down an embankment and hit a tree. His Dad and Sister went to see the car and the sight yesterday and by all rights he shouldn't be here. What we are guessing is that when he hit the tree(in his sister's Jeep Grand Cherokee not his pride and joy) the drivers door flew open and he was thrown out. He took the steering wheel with him. That plus the fact that he had an airbag and was not wearing a seat belt saved his life. After he was ejected the jeep must have gone up the tree on it's roof because the paint went up as far as my husband could reach. Then it came down and turned and the tree ended on the drivers side door. The dash and part of the left side front end was all in the front seat.He would have been totally trapped or worse and if that hadn't gotten him the tree that impaled the front would have. Bits and pieces of the Jeep were everywhere and it even tore chucks out of the transfer case. The Jeep ended up facing the road and Eddie was found behind it. His hat was in the tree and the tree was hit with such force a branch was knocked out of the top and fell on the Jeep. An angel was watching and someone either saw him or came upon the accident but he was found immediately. He was answering questions on sight but wasn't making sense then he passed out. It was a that point that med-flight had arrived and also at that point that they trached him. They had to establish his airway and counldn't through his mouth. He broke his right thumb and has three pins and broke his right leg in three places. He will have a rod forever. He also had compartment syndrome which causes pressure in the muscle tissue and that had to be relieved before thae muscle died so they cut his leg open on each side. They will close that on Thursday. Today they will remove the trache and hopefully be able to get him off the respirator as soon as they establish that there is no swelling in the airway. He has been communicating with us and I have gotten on his nerves already which is a great sign since that's normal for us!! So far things are progressing slowly but surely. The deer is dead the Jeep is dead but Eddie by the grace of God is still here. Sorry that was so long winded and I hope it wasn't too confusing. I will continue to keep you updated and please thank everyone for their support. Maryah Saunders
