Rebuildable 327

Should have added this before, the Chevy 302 is nothing more than a 327 block with a 283 crank. Buy the 327 and find a 283 crank and your all set... I should add as well the that 302 winds like theres no tomm... You would get more attention than you could imagine when your pulling really hi rev's with a small block.

[/ QUOTE ] We built a Chevy 302 for a 69 Camaro strip car. Intresting motor, very high reving engine. But I still want to build a 327 for the 78 El Camino do to you don't hardly see them in many street driven vehicles anymore.

My dad has a 68 camino with a 327, it runs good. it's built with flat top pistons and a mild cam/intake combo. Its cool as hell but a stock 350 would dog it all over the place........ There is no substitute for cubic inches! I'm with the other guys, build you a nice 350 and pretend its a 327.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Why not a use a 350 and destroke it /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif
All You need is a (68-69) 327 crank and rods with 2.45 main journals and 2.1 rod journals. An aftermarket crank and rods would be easy to come by. The only diffrence between a 68-69 327 and a 350 is the stroke 3.25 Vs. 3.48 plus it would be a large journal 327. You could even build a 4 bolt main 327 /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

Think I'll run this carb on a 327. Planning on 9 to 1 compression, Comp cams 268-H Magnum cam & lifter kit, Have the Dart Kool Can intake manifold.

After 10+years of sitting around I finally threw away a steel 327 small journal crank with rods, pistons etc. Took to the scrap yard and tossed on the pile. You can get 6,500+ rpm out of a 350 with more low end torque. And thats on pump gas with off the shelf parts.

My first purchased car , a 69 chevelle beater with a swapped in 292 and 3 speed saginaw , would light em up easily /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif I LOVE ALL Chevy/GMC engines (except the 267's in the late 70's to early 80's LOL ) /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

If you really want unique why not build a hot rod Inline 6?

[/ QUOTE ] Not intrested in a 6. My plans for the Camino is a 327, 700r4, and posi with 3.73's.

I hear ya, but it's not a hot rod, it's going to be a cruser. Something for a nice sunday drive on a paved hwy through the hills, or a 500 mile + road trip.
