Well, i've started on my hybrid project with the S10 body swap...and it appears that my axles need a little attention. Major thing is both front tube seals are totally gone....as in missing
. My hubs are pretty much gone, still may be salvageable but they've got a little bit of rust built up on the splines, cleaned up the worse one and repacked with grease and it seems to move free and engage properly.
My main deal is the fact that my passenger side spindle is missing a needle bearing out of the axle bearing assembly, and it has a pretty good about of slop in it. With the spindle still attached, you can move the stub shaft all around inside the spindle. And with the hub still on, you can move the joint about a total of an 1/2" and get a really good clang from metal to metal contact.
I was wondering if anyone had a exploded parts view of the axle assembly and maybe some kind of part numbers that i can go by. As it stands im going to need the following.
Axle tube seals, axle u-joints, wheel bearings, spindle needle bearing assemblies, wheel seals and possibly new hubs. I was thinking about going WARN, but my superwinch hubs had lasted a pretty good while and i've heard a little negative feedback lately about Warn premiums.
And before anyone hollers "just swap in a Dana 60", my funds aren't there for right now...but it is planned in the distant future. Im only running 36's with a carbed 305 and i carry a full set of axles when i wheel. However, if someone is willing to donate a 60 to a good cause............just ship it to the "Help my broke self have a more capable rig foundation"
