Tomorrow in the AM I am going to help my sons best friend who just bought a 84 K10.

The boys have already done a general tune up and they bought a kit for the carb.

I have done many quadrajets in the past but never one of these with the electronic metering solenoid or whatever it is called.

Are there any "tricks" that I need to know about or shoulod I just dive in as I have done before.

Before anyone chimes in here about not liking quadrajets I should tell you I think that they are good carbs and I have had great luck with them.

Thanks for any info you can offer.

Q-jets are great. I would get a non electronic model if you can do it legally out there.

I have a edelbrock carb from one of my old engines that I inherited.

I am looking forward to the challenge of the rebuild. It was working fairly well but the choke was acting goofy, so since he just bought it we thought it would be worth putting a kit into it.

Heading out there in a little bit, any advice from the carb guru's?

Not a guru here but I rebuilt one recently in an 86 blazer, one of the electric parts was bad and the TPS was broken so we had to change both of them.
Other than that it was just a regular Qjet rebuild.
And yeah in CA you can't just switch to a non electric carb like someone suggested.:doah:

If theyre anything like the electronic qjets that came in g-body cars then I wouldnt mess with it w/o be shown how to set it up first. Bring it to a shop that has the dwell meter to set up the fuel solenoid and ask if you can sit in on them doing it.

It may be my lack of carb experience but I've had a butt load of gbody cars and the carbs are like pandoras box. Once you take the top plate off to replace the tps everything goes out of wack and needs to be re calibrated. My monte I tore the **** off and put a regular q jet on, regal I brought to a shop and my 442 is getting a mechanical setup.

Idk maybe I just have bad luck w/ carbs but everyone I've been into was a nightmare and well worth the $300-$400 to have an oldtimer at a shop do it.

Well, I got the kit put into the carb and it runs great except for there isn't any accelerator pump fuel getting shot when you blip the throttle.

Classic quadrajet bog???? I am asking here before I tear the top back off to check the accelerator pump. Is the accelerartor pump output affected in any way by the electronic componants on this carb or do you think the float level is too low to have filled the resivoir for the accelerator pump?

It has been MANY years since i've messed with one of those but IIRC there is an adjustment that needs to be made for the fuel portion of the electric dealio.

Lol they still make those??

This thing is running super rich. No way it will pass smog and it will probably foul the plugs if I dont adjust something.

The choke opens as it should, Do I just try to adjust the idle screws or should I find a shop that has whatever tools needed to adjust the electric stuff on the carb?
