I'm building a 70 K10 and I have a few questions. First, I picked up a later model disk brake dana 44, and disassembled it for paint. Can I just put it back together, or do I need a new crush sleeve or other things? Everything seems to be in good shape, although I am gonna throw new seals in it.

My rear 12 bolt is a different story. My factory 12 bolt is in great shape, but it is the wrong ratio. I picked up another 12 bolt that is the right ratio and is a posi too,but its from a coil spring truck. What do I need to swap the carriers? My budget is non existent.

If your 44 had a crush sleeve than it needs a new one when it goes back together. Evidently some people don't replace them though.

Not sure on the 12b.

I'm pretty sure that a Chevy 44 doesn't have a crush sleeve. The preload on the pinion is set with the shims.

That's kinda what I was thinking. When I pulled it apart there wasn't anything but some shims and a few bearings.
