rebuilding factory rear leaf springs help

Also Ive had my springs on the front for 3 years Joe, ive got some miles on them.

I do not count on road miles as abusive.

If you are blowing the squeaker pads out of your springs regularly enough that you have to keep a handfull of spares around, (wtf?) then you are doing what you shouldn't be doing with leaf springs and abusing them beyond what they were designed to do. You don't get to brag about the breakage that comes from ignorant abuse. That's just...dumb and redundant.

Alcans or not...leaf springs are not for jumping, and bragging about resulting breakage afterwards makes you sound like a jack-ass.

I think ill jack it up, put a new set in and keep running it... Im not bending springs. Idk why you are getting so peeved about it.

It was a simple jab at you for comedic relief, nothing more. Chill out.

I have ord springs and have lost a bunch of pads. I'm guessing they get ripped out on the East Coast rocks.

Jethro, your springs look brand new in that picture. I wonder if the consistent southern temperature keeps them in better shape. Adam's and mine have gone through many freeze thaw cycles.

I'll preface this with there's nothing wrong with replacement leaf pads.....

But my springs don't have the holes drilled for them and the adhesive ones were squeezing out. Based on some science-y stuff somewhere on the net, I bought self-adhesive sheets of UHMWPE (ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene) from Mcmaster-carr. and lined the tops of my leafs with them. I can say it has a noticeably smoother ride. Longevity is a concern and it's too soon to tell. But just in the event you wanna get fancy, I'd say it works well.

One caveat: If you use 1/8" sheet on a spring pack with say 5 leaves, you will end up with 1/2" of suspension lift. Wasn't noticeable on mine.

Can you please explain this a little more. Do you have any pictures or links to products?

UHMWPE is a slick, self-lubricating surface (think teflon). You can get it in adhesive sheets. To save material, I cut 3 pieces per leaf - one for the center pin area, and one for each end of the leaf where it slides on the leaf above it. The springs feel much smoother over bumps to me. No squeaks, and no noticeable wear so far. If they don't last long-term, I'll drill holes for the more secure regular spring pads.

Have you guys ever heard of spring liners?

Its basically a roll of teflon material that wraps around each spring. You need quite a bit of it to do all the springs. But I was told its the end all by spdr on pirate.

If i keep blowing my pads out, I may do my springs with liners this winter...

Random link, not correct size etc.

Tell that to the dude who finished KOH with a leaf sprung truck with bypasses!

To the OP.

Did you look into replacement springs? By the time and money you spent on bushings and hardware to redo old springs, you probably could have spent almost the same money on replacement springs with new everything....
