I just had my 454 rebuilt. 30 over, new pistons, rings, bearings, heads redone etc. I was wondering what motor oil I should use to break the engine in with?

Also plan to use a can of Engine Oil Supplement (EOS) - it will protect the motor well for the first startup. You should also prelube the motor before startup.

Regular good quality 10-40 for the oil. Change oil after 50-100 miles. Dont use synthetic oil for at least 2000 miles.
X2 on the EOS. Great stuff for break in. Get it from your local GM/Chevy dealer.

My machine shop guy says to use straight SAE 30 dinosaur oil for the first 500 miles (assuming the weather's not cold). He knows his stuff, and I've done 2 engines that way with good results.

Frankly, it doesn't matter which one you use, as long as it's got plenty of EP additives. Rotella T wouldn't be a bad choice. The EOS is a must, if you don't want to buy it from GM, buy Comp Cam's stuff instead.
