Good afternoon from Spain! A big hug!

I have a Chevy Blazer K5 1990 1500 with v8 engine and th700r4 box.

Recently the car has started to fail, the reverse gear doesn't work, and it makes a strange noise.

I disassembled it and it turns out that the reverse discs and the drum are badly damaged.

I'm repairing the gearbox, with the whole new rebuild kit and a new drum.

I have some doubts,

1º. - Because this could have happened.

The transfer has lost, I'm also going to do it, any recommendations?

My personal preference would be a 4l60E. Just make sure you get a torque converter with a billit piston in it, and it should last you longer than a 700R.

Update what you can while you have it apart. If it is just a cruiser, the 700 will do fine for a long time.

Thank you very much for the answers.

It may be that when removing the gearbox, and disconnecting all connectors from it, the car contact does not work. I mean, the car with the box out of it, it doesn't give the ignition key position 1 or 2, it doesn't have current. I don't know if it's the box or why I made a short, I don't know where to look.

Greetings.

Wouldn’t you have removed the starter to pull the transmission? Been a long time since I worked on a non LS motor, but I suppose you would have at least removed the power to it.

A 4L60 IS a TH700R-4. It was just renamed in the last couple of years (1990-1992?), so technically he may already have a 4L60. The 4L60-E has the electrically controlled valve body and therefore would need a transmission controller. That adds a lot of complexity above a basic rebuild.
