1. I'm guessing the little bearing in the spindle is the spindle bearing. There's a little brass or copper, beveled, flat washer that goes on the outside of the bearing. Is that necessary? The reason I'm asking is that when I did the driver side last week, it was there. When I did the passenger side today, it wasn't and nobody local showed a part number for it so I put it back together today without it. Seems like the inner seal will keep dirt and stuff out.

2. Are you front hubs supposed to warm up when driving? It's 25 miles from my shop to my house. When I got home today, the driver side hub was a little warm, the passenger side that I just did was somewhere betwenn warm and a little hot. I'm hoping this is normal when you put in new wheel bearings, races, axle joints, and Warn premiuom hubs. With my mechanic luck, it probably isn't.

The washer is called a thrust washer and you're supposed to need it. It goes between the bearing and the end of the spindle (behind the bearing).

got a part#?:D It's not in my LMC diagram and quick google search turns up nothing other than another confused guy on 69-72.

know what's weird? Apparently there's a couple different setups on 71-72 d44's. Looks like the thrust washer belongs in the needle bearing/ 2 piece seal setup like this. On mine, there's tapered rollered bearings and a 1 piece seal.
