I changed the rear end gears out on my 'burban, went from 4.10's to 3.42's. How do I recalibrate the spedo? It's a '90 454 with a TH400.

For what its worth, here is a website that seems to explain it all and how to fix it after sweetK30 runs out.
I do electronics work daily much more complicated than that, and I would not bother with it at those prices.
Thats a good deal.
But here is the site for later.

Very good information!

However.... Mine is an '82, so Im guessing its a gear driven system???

Any insight for the older Chebbies?

my price is dirt cheep . as each unit takes 15-20 min to do. the 20+ year old solder is a P.I.T.A to remove. and the boards are old and getting brittle at this age.

if i felt more comfortable i would charge a bit more. but i do this for a little fun and help others here who want them . plus thay are done and ready to ship out. so you still drive and then swap and check it out and when done return stocker or toss it i dont care.

but this is my opinion and you have yours. no problems . still friends. :thumb:

I'm pretty sure Fordum meant that your prices are good and once you run out of the "inventory" you have THEN he would recommend TBIchips.

and as far as i know brian tbichips only links you to the info on how to do it and also the info needed to set the unit.

Perfect example of why I tend to run on with my posts. I try to leave no room for doubt.
I thought I had done a good job with that one, but it still was open to misreading.

Your prices are fantastic for what you supply. Anybody that uses that other site while you are doing it is nuts.
The only reason I mentioned it, was not to promote his for sale stuff, it was because he had the tables necessary to make the conversions posted.

It sounded to me like this was a temporary thing with you, and when you ran out or got bored, the information would still be available for do it your selfers.

My work is so varied, I may go weeks without touching a soldering iron. But there have been times when I went through over a pound of Savabit Multicore in a week.
I'm talking the 22 ga stuff.

I have several solder suckers, and braid, but when I have a big job, I pull out the air driven solder sucker I built years ago.
I control it with my foot, and it sucks continuously as long as I hold my foot down.
It will darn near suck the foil traces off the board.

I have sucked a 40 pin DIP off a 5 layer board with it. When I sucked the last pin, I tapped the board and the chip fell off.

As a result of years of doing, I am very good at soldering.
I could probably do one of those switch installs in less than a minute judging by the instructions and pictures.

Except for close friends, I'd get at least $25 for one. And that is with the customer supplying the board and switch.

So, yeah, you are doing these guys a great service.
Sorry about any misunderstanding.

And yes guys, I said Suck.....repeatedly:laugh:

ah no hard fellinz .

we both made our points is all.

:whistle:and dam you got a hell of a sucker from what you said.

You guys rock! I was planning on taking my truck to a local repair shop and have them to the changes tomorrow after work. Not going to happen that way now. :woot:

Now all I have to do is raid my EE's parts cabinet at work . After a little :hack: and :weld:I'll be good to go.

Yep, I built the darn thing about 20 years ago while sitting at a desk waiting for some parts to arrive.

Used stuff I had laying around. Air nozzle, three pieces of brass tubing, some tygon tubing and a Teflon solder sucker tip.
It looks like crap, and I have wanted to build a nicer one ever since. But it just won't give up.

One good thing about it, when someone comes in and says " You Suck" I just hold it up and tell them " Damn Right".
