I'm getting ready to go buy a creeper before I start working on my '76 K5 build. It could take a couple of years. I'm getting too old and just tired of doing things on my back on the floor under the truck and want to get a good creeper.

I keep hearing basically horror stories about how everyone I know hates their creeper. "The wheels fell off." "It fell apart." "Make sure you get a good one." So I know tons of you guys have them. Give me some recommendations on what to get. Now, I'm not a light person, pushing 270 lbs so it would need to carry my fat azz.

I appreciate the info. Thanks.

buy a good one! All my creepers that I have ever owned have lost a wheel or something like that. Just cheap junk.

Most anything that uses skateboard looking wheels is usually good I want to try the ones they call the bone, plan on getting one in the next couple months

I got the good Flat, six wheeled Snap-on version, No wheels have fallen off yet. and the only problem is the the vinyl cracked on the head rest because it was stiff due to being Ice cold one day and I pressed my knuckle into it to get up and it cracked.
I'm just careful with it now. It seems OK.

One of these days I'm going to build one with a lift kit.

Kind of defeats the purpose doesn't it?:D

Sometimes I have a hard time reachin' stuff. Just a 3 or 4 inch. Maybe less. Just some taller wheels would do the trick. Roll over stuff a little nicer too.

I sometimes wish mine had bigger tires/wheels. My driveway has huge cracks that will send me sliding right off the creeper, which of course causes the use of many 4 letter expletives!

I get that as well. Some of the cement in the shop is less than cooperative with a creeper.

Harbor Freight...20$ it has held up to my 265+ for a while now, and rolls over most of my uneven floor good. I'm sure there are better ones, but this one is light weight has six rollers and has run over bolts, metal shards, junk on the floor and the rollers are still on it.
Oh and I'll be giving one away at the Build and Greet to some lucky unsuspecting soul!
And its comfy, way better than my plywood ancient rebuilt 4 times POS.

Get the bone!
Our heavy duty mechanic swears by his, and he is a take no sh#t over 200 pound guy.

I know he has had it for over 5 years uses it every day, and it runs over cords and small rocks... whatever. Says he can`t live without it.

Plus it is supper low to the ground.

That said mine is a peice of sh#t...... I got some cheap Canadian tire junk.

I've got a MechaniX (sp?) brand from pepboys/Kragen/Checkers/Orielly/ everyother store. It holds up ok, but the wheels suck. I roll on dirt/grass, the better area is rocky cement, which sucks too. I'm going to replace the wheels with something larger and more rubbery. I think that's key, you could go with a cheapo creeper, but upgrade the wheels.

I've got my grandfathers creeper from the 50's or 60's. Vintage to say the least. Doesn't roll well but amazing how much better it is than a lot of the new crap.

However I have been thinking about getting a newer creeper. Dad had some crappy one and years ago my brother and I got him a Craftsman one (without the engine) and it's pretty nice to lay on and roll around on.
However at work our deprocessing crew uses a variety of the Bone family of creepers and they seem to hold up very well to outside, crappy weather, not skinny folks who don't own them, etc use very well.

Zim's cheap HF one looks tempting though...

I never could use them the way I wanted to, laying on them under the truck,,,, have to do some serious torquing on a wrench or ratchet, and the whole thing moves. I prefer personally to just lay in the ground so I can brace myself better.

Maybe if they made one with soft rubber wheels/tires and a parking brake. :tongue1:

Thanks everyone for the info. That Snap On one looks nice. I've seen that Bone one too and see great reviews on them. The good ones definitely aren't cheap but you get what you pay for.

I was at Harbor Freight just yesterday but they didn't have any creepers in stock. I've been leery about HF for stuff that I want to keep for a long time. Maybe that's unwarranted. I have had one of their air compressors for 10 years now and it's still going strong. I got a nice engine stand from there too. Impact sockets, etc. All still work. I may go back there and see if they have any I can try out.

I like the parking brake idea.
