Ok so i have 77k miles and she is bucking and lights coming back on... did this a month or 2 ago and the stealership wanted to do all plugs/wires and clean the intake/injectors for $575.. i said replace the #7 cyl plug... knew i should do them all but been busy..

going to take 1/2 day at work.. hopefully she makes it home ok..

so i know people say OEM is best.. or ac/delco...

so who (Ryoken) recommends what?

so now i have read online that people said their motor kept leaning it out as the O2 was reporting too rich.. hopefully she dont lean me out and blow up the motor like it did for others..

i only got..
60 miles...
:doah:

Why are your plugs bad at that low of mileage? My 01 silverado 5.3 had almost 180k on the original plugs when i changed them and they still could have kept going. I just remember they were pretty pricy plugs. Get oem.

i had a problem recently.. had it towed in.. cost me $122 for 1 plug to be replaced ($10 plug + $99/hr labor minimum 1hr + 7% NJ tax)

I was supposed to get around to replace them ALL but just didnt.. figured i would go to 90-100k if it could.. but it didnt make it much farther...

i dont know the "why" but i do know the "it needs it now" :dunno:

Yah just kinda threw me off as mine prolly woulda lasted to 200k no prob for how they looked at 180. And yes i know they were original as i was the 2nd owner to my grandpa and he never had them changed.

If you get them changed out, post some pics.

100k on a plug is not uncommon these days. You may have other problems.

Does it have a dizzy, or coil packs?

Individual coil packs,

you mention bucking and whatnot, I have never had any vehicle buck and drive like that due a fouling or screwed up plug, always just a misfire, causing the engine to run alitle rough.

Only time I have had vehicles buck was usually a fuel delivery related problem or multiple lack of spark issue.

Also I would be leary of that particular coil pack. The one on my dads Aveo, a single unit with 2 packs mounted, running a 4 cylinder engine went out, it was causing all kinds of hesitation, would hardly get going, spitting & sputtering. I replaced the pack, $125 later and he's been driving it ever since, 4 years ago.

His pack as mentioned was a dual pack, controlling 4 cylinders, so I would guess at least two of them weren't firing right.

Got 147k on my stock plugs in a 00 Sierra 5.3, need to replace mine cause its starting to loss fuel mileage and miss alittle. Not sure what plugs Im going with though, thinking about running NGK tr55's.

By all means put the original AC Delco plugs in it. When I was a service adviser at Chevrolet we had people but in Bosch Platinum's all the time and the motors hated it as stated above.

I agree though that is sounds like something else may be wrong. I did plugs in my 2000 Silverado with the 5.3 at 100,000 miles about 2 years ago and they didn't even look like they needed to be replaced.

I did them anyway for good measure.

I tried those Bosch Platinums in my old '88 IROC, TPI 350, it ran, but burnt through them in about 3 months, yeah, they suck and i'm surprised they are even still being made.

I did just put some of the AC Delco Platinum professionals in the '89 Burb, wth the fresh rebuilt engine, it ran great before the electrical problem showed up. Started up nice & easy too. I think they are more of a factory replacement platinum design, exposed tip.

Those AFM engines tend to burn oil, lots of oil. #7 cylinder being the worst because it sets right above the afm oil valve, also there is a updated valve cover to help with oil being burned though the pcv system which also seems to affect #7 the worst.
That being said those plugs tell me you are burning oil and until that problem is fixed they will keep going bad.
Do you powertrain warranty left? being an 08 I would think so.
Ideally you would have pistons and rings replaced( do to extreme oil coking) with a afm oil deflector and a new valve cover installed.
Of course that would be very expensive if you do not have warranty left.

In reponse to the original question, always use Ac Delco plugs.

yes i do have the 100k warranty.. i have found out it doesnt cover much..

so my wife is going to take the plugs to chevy today.. and i want the guy to check them out..

now #7 is partially blown apart... i didnt show that.. i dont know if it is from it falling out when i took it out and it hitting the concrete or if it did that while in the motor.. my father said to check to see if im using antifreeze and if so... then it is worse...

hmm maybe time to look into another truck... like a 2500hd..

my 6.0 2500 I just had the plugs and wires replaced w/ AC Iridiums....it had something else in it, and he said to only run the AC Iridiums in it...smooth as its ever been since I've owned it, and the shudder/misfire under load from 1500-2000rpm is gone now.

yeah i started noticing at a red light.. the tach flickr around..

but with plugs (ac delco iridiums) and duralast wires (7mm vs bosch 8mm) my MPG went up... SHAWEET!!! cuz i drive 60 miles each way to work...

i can live with 20.4mpg... as i was getting 18.5 on the same trip...
