I just got this thing. It's a 2001' Trans Am Ram Air WS6 w/ 27,000 miles on it. I about to do the first oil change and I was wondering what you guys (and gals) might recommend for oil. I'm leaning toward Mobil 1 synthetic...

I like Castrol exclusively. However, seeing as how 'Vettes come new with Mobil 1 it would seem to be a good idea in your T/A though. /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif

Ya, mobil one is one of the best oils out there. The warrenty is void on corvettes if anything else is used other than mobil one. I run it in my truck and it seems to work great. Castrol is also a good one. These two brands you can find pretty much anywhere. If you ran some thing like Ams oil or Royal Purple, you would have to go to a performance shop or order it. However, those oils are thought to be the elite. If you are going to switch to synthetic, you better do it soon. If you run conventional too long, switching to synthetic could lead to a few leaks.

GM recommended switching to Mobil-1 in order to help with the piston slap defect in the engines. I have been running M-1 in my 02 Firehawk but didnt notice any difference in the piston noise. There have been other recommendations for different synthetics which are suppose to help quiet the knock.

Not to be an ass, but why don't you post this in the Other Rides section or the NON 4x4 Forums?

Mobil 1 Filter....Mobil 1 Oil....filter's more important than the oil.....full sysnthetic's are all pretty much alike... /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Amisoil
Mobil 1
Castrol syntec

in that order, depending on what you can afford
