When I've run-in my rebuilt '90 TBI motor (all stock apart from flat top pistons), what's a 'safe' working RPM limit? I'm not talking about sustained screaming, but momentary, up thru the gears limit. Or maybe 2 or 3 seconds to get out of a hole, that sort of thing. Any ideas?.

I would say 5K. I have ran my TBI 350 up to 5 k and a bit more with no problems. If your motor is stock you wont make much power over 4500. Thats where it starts to run out of cam and air.

5500 is stock max

aways has been

as general rule

each engine can take only so much strain before kaboom, just like ppl one engine isnt identical to another, piston weights, rod weights, balance, etc,

so forth,

all factors

if you really want to get technical,,

good luck

My stock TBI 350 in my 87 was around 5200 to 5500. I stuck it in 4-low and floored it to see where it shifted at. The one-two shift was right about 5200 so I'd say just above that would be redline.

Just looking for a good 'ball park' figure instead of shifting at 4500 as I've always done in my trucks. Thanks!
