I seen something ive never seen before today. I pulled the heads off my engine and some of the spark plugs and valves were red. I looked in the haynes manual and the closest thing i could find was high speed glazing, but that says a yellowish galzed appearence. Says combustion chamber temps have risen suddendly during hard acceleration. The only thing i did was start it up cold and move it from one garage to another to do the work on it.

Says to use colder plugs. I was going to go with colder plugs cuz im still having a bit of a ping on 91 octane fuel with r44ts spark plugs, one step colder than stock. I might take a pic tomorrow and post it on here.

Has anyone seen smooth redness on the plugs and valves before?

The only thing i have seen that cause that is gas additives. Acetone will leave a red coating on the combustion chamber. Have you used any fuel additives?

I have had red and purple ,green top ends all after using Fuel Fragrances by Manhattan Oil!!!

Manganese gas additives ( MMT ) will leave red deposits like you are seeing.. MMT is an anti knock additive, and it is blended into gasoline by the refiner, before it gets to the retail pump.

You can read about it here:

http://www.epa.gov/oms/regs/fuels/additive/mmt_cmts.htm

MMT is also an ingredient in crap like HOT 104, or any other over the counter octane boost.
