I don't wanna spend more on the hinge than I did for all the metal to make the bumper and tire carrier... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

So anyone have any ideas for a hinge that is more basic than the trailer bearing/hub set-up popular as late? It needs to hold a tire and maybe gas, not 1000lbs, so there must be an easy yet strong solution...

I just can't think of it /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif

3/4" pipe nipple welded to whatever with a 3/4" bolt inside welded to the other whatever

Im getting ready to use two 4" heavy duty door hindges, made for those 300lb doors. Figure it this way, when was the last time you saw a door hindge wear out? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'm using Heim joints. I can sit on the spare tire (210 for me and about 100lb for spare and door) and my 10 year old can swing me and the carrier with a finger.

Check out 4x4 Iron or Rockstomper. Their kits are super cheap and durable. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Not to downtalk anyones product, but I have bent the Rockstomper hinge. Just thought I'd throw in my experience with it as they aren't as durable as they seem to be.

rock stomper was like $45, not that this is loads of money but thats more than all the metal would cost to make a tire carrier...

If it's a redneck hinge then use a spindle and hub from an old front end that way if you blow a hub or fry a bearing in the front end /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif You can take your tire carrier apart to get you home /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Redneck eh...used to be the big thing, with the Rednecks around here to mount their spare on the front bumper...no hinge needed /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Me riding while the kid is pushing...no but here is a picture of the hinge for the right door that has double Jerry holder and highlift. BTW my carriers ARE my tail gate.

Here is another. Ignore the top bar. that's what the back of the soft top ties into.

LOL I was thinking about something like that since I have some old spindles and junk from my 6 lug set-up, now that would be redneck /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

It would be huge though and the six lug stuff wouldn't be compatible...hmmmmmm, tempting, very tempting /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

Grim,
That idea kicks azz. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif. I would love to see more pics on how it blots up and made if possible.

Redneck would be an agitator, shaft, and bearing's, out of an old washing machine, with plumber's tape used as cross, support's. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
