redrilling wheels/new hubs?

I got my hands on a built 14 bolt with an 8 lug pattern but i love my wheels and don't want to change em. i know i can redrill my hole pattern on my wheels but theyre aluminum and i dont want to kill the integrity of them. how hard is it to redrill the hub and drum or is there another way to go about changing the axle to a six lug?
 
You don't want to redrill the wheel, or hub.

Is it a 14 bolt Semi floater, or full floater?

There are conversion hubs available, but really, it tends to be cheaper to get different wheels.
 
Full floater. i have some steelies that will work, but i love the wheels i have now. =/
 
Many people have been in this same dilemma. You can convert a 14BFF to 6-lug, but it requires custom machining on the hubs, axleshafts, etc. Converting to 8-lug all around is cheaper than this. You can not make a wheel adapter work for this. So here are your best options:

1) Embrace your 8-lug future. The nicer your wheels are, the more money you can get when you sell them. Buy a similar wheel in 8-lug, get some front 8-lug outers and you're done. Having that full float rear implies you might run some big meats, so jump to 8-lug right away before spending money on 6-lug stuff. About 6,000,000 guys on here will tell you to do this.

2) Forget about the 14 FF. Get a 14B S/F. The 80's ones will bolt in and can be converted to 6-lug with junkyard parts. Some 90's ones came in 6-lug and just need spring perches and shock mounts moved. Much easier than reworking the FF. That 9.5" rear is good for like 38"-39" tires.

In either case, search. The details of both have been posted here numerous times.

Well i have the fullfloater, so im sticking with it. i'll just run the steelies and some ralley wheels in front, no big deal.

Any suggestions on a nice looking set of 8 lugs under $600 that i can grab in 6 lug also??

The cost to convert the front to 6 lug isn't that big. You just need a set of 8 lug outers, they will bolt on to your axle.

Remember, if you run 8 lug rear, and 6 lug front, you now need to carry 2 spares.
 
I don't know why you would want different lug patterns front and rear, except for a temporary patch. A front 10b or D44 can easily be changed either way - it's less work than changing out the front axleshafts and parts should be <$100. With a Dana 60, anything but 8-lug is pricey, which is another pro for 8-lug :D
