im installing a quadrajet on my 1987 jimmy and need some way of reducing the pressure. i have found some return style fuel pressure regulators for about 65 bucks. i believe they were quick fuel brand or something like that. is this what i need to get the right p.s.i. or would something else work better?

are there any other ways to get the pressure where it needs to be? i just want to drive my truck and im tired of fighting with the junky pro-jection that is on there. what is the easiest way to convert to a carb setup?

If you use the stock mechanical pump you will be fine.

I'm running a Holley blue electric pump (which I would highly recommend staying away from) and the regulator that came with it. I'm running 2.5 - 3 psi of pressure with my Q-jet.

i have thought about throwing a mechanical pump on there. it would be cheap. but what would i have to do in the tank to get rid of the electric pump? i dont really want to buy a new sending unit because i just barely did that. could i just add a peice of pipe where the pump used to go? maybe connect it with rubber or something? also what pressure should i be shooting for? it will be feeding a 383 i put in it

In my s10 I just used a length of fuel hose in place of the fuel pump. Has worked great so far.

I also have a mechanica pump feeding my 383 but I have an Edelbrock 1405 on it instead of a rochester. Edelbrock recomended 5-6 psi. I'm using a cheap fuel regulator I got, can't remember the price, from holley. I think it's the same one that comes with the blue pump.

I'm actually thinking about installing a quadrajet in place of the edelbrock though.

im going to make an order from summit soon. i think im going to pick up a rebuild for the carb and a cheap pressure regulator. i also need a good mechanical pump. do you just recomend running a gm pump? im getting my new tires in the next few days and hope to have the truck running shortly after

A stock gm pump puts out about 8psi stock. The edelbrock isn't internally regulated so I needed something to cut it down to the 5psi I'm running now. I belive the quadrajet is inernally regulated so a regulator isn't needed with a mechanical pump.

Stock-type pump + stock-type carb is just like the factory setup, so no regulator is required.

You want to TAKE OFF the fuel injection? I have never seen an issue bring out the "grass is always greener" mindset more than the carb/FI debate.

i have talked to some people about putting the stock tbi back on. i was told that it wouldnt flow enough for my engine. plus most of the wiring on the truck is gone thanks to the previous owner. i havent looked in to the tpi much. i think im going the carbureted route because its inexpensive. and it will at least get my truck going. and as far as the projection goes... its junk i dont think i have ever been able to get it dialed in.

right now i have a quadrajet that used the hot air tube for the choke. is this adaptable to my engine? can you convert them to electric choke for cheap? or should i find another carb

i converted my 900 tbi over to carb...the tbi quit workin and i creplaced EVERYTHING (except wiring harness) and couldnt get it to work...i dont want a 4x4 i cant work on myself so it was out w/fi and in w/carb...last sunday my motor blew a head gasket so now its rebuild/new crate time...probably goin w/older model(85 or older) w/mechanical fuel pump...just drop the tank and pull out the pump, replace it w/fuel hose, get an inline fuel pump(round 5psi) mount it b4 the filter in the frame rail and you'll be good

He said he has Holley projection.
Is this the system that nobody can get tuned right?
With all the EFI hardware in place, that rig could go Megasquirt for less money than a new carb. All that's needed is one of the pre-assembled controllers and to build an adapter harness. If it's multi-point, that would be worth it.
