I've got a '90 3/4 ton 4x4 Sub and I want to change axle ratios. I have 3.45 and want to go to 3.73. I've decided that it will be easier/cheaper to just find a complete axle and change it out.

Is there any real strength dif between a 10 bolt and a Dana 44? Does it matter on a stock rig (235/86-16s for tires).

Same question, but this time it is on a 1/2 ton Sub and I want to go to 4.11. Is a 12 bolt any better than a 10 bolt?

I would argue that the strength difference between the two sets of axles is negliglible. On a strock truck, I'd run either without a second thought.

Agree with Russ, 10bolts and 44's, no real difference same for a 10 bolt and a 12 bolt especially with small tires.

Agreed. As long as you're dealing with 1/2 ton hardware 10B/12B/D44, you can't really go wrong with any of the three, differences are minor.

You forgot the most important detail....

Adam, as fun as it is to get young girls drunk this photo is a bit incriminating. I mean, I'm still fairly certain she is a minor even though you have disguised her with the 30 rack box.

I'd still do a 6 lug 9.5in 14bolt on something heavy out back though. Especially if you want a govlock. As far as the front a Dana 44 is better only if you want to upgrade. It has more aftermarket support and a wider gear selection.
