If I move my diff forward fairly far in the front of my 2wd. with standard dropped draglink crossover, will it work okay...or will I need to move my box forward?

I need to know this because I am going to be bracing and welding around my steering box, new custom crossmembers etc.... SOO

If I move it forward to the front of the frame, brace it etc, it will be probally 2.5 forward of stock.

I am already thinking of notching and bracing factory engine crossmember..

either way, im in the thick of my 2wd swap, the rear 14 bolt 4:56 with the 9 inchs is in! jacked rear, lowered 2wd front! hahaha

thanks for your help, pics to come soon:bow:

If you are only using crossover and not high steer you can get away with leaving the box where it is. I had a conversation with Stephen at ORD and he said that up to 4" forward is OK with crossover. any amount forward with high steer you will run into problems depending on how much lift you have.

I would not recommend high steer. you lose steering force and run the risk of snapping knuckles.

If you do go highsteer, you can only move the axle forward 1" before the tie-rod and draglink will hit. 2" is doable, but expect a fair amount of contact.

The solutions for this are: tie-rod behind the axle or move steering box forward

Also may want to think about high clearence engine cross member if you go reverse high steer (ala ORD for $200ish)

Hijack: Could the axle be moved far enough forward (reasonably of course) that a striaght draglink could be used with clearence issues with the crossmember?

is this what you meant? your lift height is going to have an effect on if you can use a straight draglink. I have 8" of lift and a straight draglink would not work for me. the joints at the end would be maxed before I flexed it.

look at the installed pictures. the angles on the ends are fairly flat. thats good because the axle can go up or down and stay with the limits of the tie-rod ends.

If you are asking because you want to piece a kit together that makes sense but I would recommend buying a complete kit. lots of people sell them. you could shorten the tierod from another truck and save a few dollars but it will not be as strong and the parts will not be serviceable.
