Some of you may remember my gigantic compressor I picked up a while back... I re-wired it, lubed it and cleaned it up and it's been running like a champ ever since.

It's been in the garage the whole time taking up TONS of valuable space so I decided to move it outside the garage. Between my dad and I we lugged it outside, drilled through the wall and ran the air-line and wires back into the garage and into a hose on a reel on the wall...

I'll get pics tomorrow... BUT for those of you that have big compressors seriously think about moving them outside... after a while you learn to live with them in the garage but it's well worth the time and effort to move them out! :D I don't know why I lived with it for so long...

Like I said... pics to come.

Pics, Pics!!!!! I am curious what you did, if anything, to protect the compressor from the elements.

he is in socal...nuff said. Anyways I can imagine that it would take up alot of good space, I got lucky in that there is a cutout where my washer and dryer go, and another 3 ft of space on the end that allow my air compressor to tuck in out of the way. Glad you got the air comp to work well, I am always a fan of refurbing old tools to make them work instead of paying loads of cash for a new one.

Ya my dad is always hell bent on having an air compressor right beside a tool bench so you have to listen to the loud bastard all the time. Whenever I build my shop it will have small lean to and the air compressor is gonna sit in it, either that or it will be in the furthest corner of the shop.

Like uao85 said here in Fresno I only have to worry about a little rain from time to time. That being said I think I'm going to modify a big BBQ cover to work.... right now I just have a tarp over it.

Absolutely... I would much rather buy old tools and equipment and put a little effort into making them work.

I'll get pics this afternoon.

I have a single detached garage (12 x 20)right now, and I plan on adding a 16' x 16' section to the front. There will also be a small compressor enclosure so ithe compressor is not physically in the shop too. I love compressors and stuff, just hate listening to them and so do my neighbors.

We stuck our big rotary screw compressor at work outside. It's loud, but I never realized how loud until it was brought inside the shop during a cold snap we had. It was parked about 20 feet from where I work and it was unbearable without ear plugs.

I've been wanting to do 2 things. Switch to low rpm multi-stage, AND move it outside. Gotta build a little dog-house first though. Sure will be nice to have it outside MY dog house!

Here's some pics...

Luckily we have a corner outside the garage (but still under the roof for the most part) that we aren't around too much so it's not too much of an eye sore... I'm going to build an enclosure around the entire thing in the next few weeks. For now I just toss that silver tarp over it.

Now that the foam is set-up I can sand it smooth (this stuff expanded a TON).

While I was at it I put a ball valve directly off the tank so I can shut the flow to the entire system off if need-be. The tank holds air like a champ so once it's full it'll stay full for a few days so this way I don't have to empty the entire system and at the same time I don't have to keep pressure in the lines unless I'm using it...

The wiring comes in the garage and drops down behind the dryer where the hook-up is...

The air hose runs the other way towards the front of the garage...

I mounted a reel on the wall so I don't have to mess with rolling up hoses anymore...

Oh, and I tossed a little regulator/guage between the hose from the compressor and the hose on the reel...

We fired it up and used it tonight for a project dad had going on and it worked great.

My 80 gallon went outside when I built my shop. There was never even a consideration of it being on the inside. I like having air in the shop, but I don't want to actually hear that I have air....

Yep! I don't know why I waited so long to get that beast out of the garage...

I've used it a few other times since I moved it and everything is working great and I don't have any leaks...

Yeah that's on my list of projects... but with summer approaching I'm not too worried. Within the next few months though I'll buy some lumber and get something built.

Cool beans, man! I have a 30 gallon upright compressor (oil-less kind) and since it's a LOUD sucker, I want it outside. It's just the fact that it's still small and light enough to swipe and drive away that keeps me from doing it. Someday, I'll do it....someday.

You don't have somewhere beside the house in the backyard?

Well, I don't own a house yet :o and the compressor is at my kids' mother's house since Jason has one here I can use. I just leave mine at her house so I can use it on her car, etc.

Like I said, someday... :D
