Relocating spring preches

measure, measure and measure again, then check your angles, hell maybe even bolt the axle in the truck with the spring perches not welded on to get the ideal pinion angle.

my pinion angle is pretty good right now. should I set the angle of the preches the same as the pinion?

Well it depends what kind of driveshaft you have, if CV point the pinion in line with the driveshaft, if not you want the pinion and t-case output to be parallel.

whatever comes stock on an 90' burb.

so nobody has relocated spring preches before??? btw it's an 14FF...

You should have measured the angle of the old perches relative to the Pinion before you cut them off and then glued the new ones on at the same relative angle. Now your screwed! Just kidding… The best way to do it is to install the axle with the new perches loose, and then rotate the axle housing until you get it centered side to side and have the correct pinion angle, then glue it up.

I know, I though of that after I'd cut them off. well I'll just wait till I get the locker and the rest of the parts for the disk brake conversion. then weld up the perches

That's how I did mine. I got my D70 all mounted up, made sure the axle was centered, the perches were at their proper center to center distance, and the pinion angle all set, then I tacked it in, took it all apart and did the final weld with it off the vehicle. I bought some regular nuts for my u-bolts to make it easier to spin them on and off for the install and subsequent removal of the axle. It takes forever to spin those nylock nuts on/off, so I only switched to those for the final install.

Same here. Mounted everything up with the ubolts semi loose, centered the diff. (left-right), then put the tires on so the measurments I made weren't at full droop. Then I just used a floorjack under the pinion to move it up to where I needed it.

Haven't gotten around to welding it yet, since it been raining 'round here.

set the pinion 1-2 degrees low to compensate for axle wrap under power. Unless you have a link setup you DO haver some axle wrap.
