I installed the 5.3L out of a 2004 avalanche into my 88 suburban and now the battery needs to be moved to the drivers side so I can hook up the factory airbox I got from the 5.3L which runs to the passenger side. Just wondering if anyone had some pics of it moved, and did they cut out the stock battery tray from the passenger side and just reweld it to the drivers side?

No need to cut or move anything. Just get a drivers side one. I got mine from LMC. Infact if you feel around, you can see where the wheel wheel has a small dimple where the battery tray will be mount, just get a factory drivers side one and drill and be done with it.

Do you really want to run the factory air box? I'd modify it as needed to put it somewhere convenient.

Considering how the radiator hose comes out of the 5.3L water pump and then runs straight across the front of the motor around the throttle body, the only choices are spending $150+ on a cold air kit, or running this stock setup.

Use what you need of the stock setup, and modify as needed towards the end....?

You're not picturing how the throttle body is all the way in the front of the intake, facing forward and then the intake goes around the radiator hose, to the MAF, then is a large box with air filter inside in the battery area. Behind that is the coolant overflow tank. So moving the battery to the drivers side is pretty much the only option. Just thought people might have pics of how they did it or could explain what they did.

Familiar with the setup, just picture you extending the tube after the MAF sensor and locating the filter box wherever you want.

Regardless, to relocate the tray, you just need to buy one for the drivers side out of a diesel. The hole locations to mount are already dimpled into the sheet metal. Drill the holes, mount the tray, rewire power, and install batter. Good luck!

Just order or get a drivers side tray and drill 3 holes, its a factory bolt up. no modifications needed. It goes on the exact same as passenger side one.

As mentioned, there was an optional second battery, basically mirroring the original one. It's different for 73-80 than for 81-87/91, just like the primary battery, but as mentioned, you can get the parts easily enough. The second battery was common on diesels but could have been ordered on anything.

The biggest problem you'll likely face is re-routing the wires. You may have to juggle stuff on the firewall -- I had to move the charcoal canister an inch or so, for instance, though that doesn't likely apply to your truck!, or do something with the radiator overflow tank.

$50 for one from LMC.....whew they must be made out of gold LOL

Oddly, LMC sometimes has GM-stickered parts, so while you get dealer (i.e. OEM) quality... you also get dealer pricing.

Actually I find them to be somewhat pricey overall, but they have stuff that can be hard to get new. :dunno:

Yip. I got a rear tailgate key switch and it was a GM part. With parts getting harder to find it seems , as long as someone has them its a win for us.
