I'm at my local Kragans (or whatever it's called now that Kragans has been sold) getting a starter to replace the one I got last year with a lifetime warranty and strike up a conversation with the counter guy as to why parts made today don't seem to last nearly as long as parts manufactured years ago. One thing leads to another and he mentions something about remanufactured parts and rebuilt parts I'd never heard before. Can anyone tell me if this is true:

Remanufactured - the only part reused is the case, all the insides are new.

Rebuilt - The unit is dissassembled, cleaned and tested. Only the parts not working are replaced, the rest are reassembled.

True that! I used to run an auto-electric shop, and what you just described is spot on.

Wow! I can't believe I've been schooled by a Kragans counter guy!
Embarrassing.

Thanks, now maybe I'll start buying parts that last longer than a year.

Why not buy a NEW starter? They aren't much more than a reman or rebuilt unit.
