Sooo my truck is in the shop with a tranny (700r4) warranty issue (servo decided to exit the case, taking a chunk of the housing with it). Anyway, way too long later, they are almost done but can't figure out why it shifts weird between 2 and 3 and revs higher in OD(?).

I have a remote tranny filter installed. If they hooked up the cooler lines backwards, what effect can that have on the transmission? There are no other directional sensitive things in that oil circuit. I tried to tell him, but I don't know if he payed me any mind. The filter itself is a wix 51515 with an anti drainback valve (ADBV).

I am asking here because-I don't know...I want my damn truck back! Any ideas why it would have a hard time shifting from 2-3, then perhaps over-rev in 4th (I have no more details on the tranny's shifting. Phone conversations only) I am tired of talking to them and was hoping for different opinions. He said they tried a new valve body and did some plate adjusting...

If you run an oil filter backwards, it will take dirt out of the air and put it in the oil..............

Seriously, it depends on the filter setup. For instance, most engine oil filters have a bypass setup that will let the oil bypass the filter if it gets too clogged.

Better to let dirty oil go through than starve the engine for oil.
That setup probably would not work and would starve the engine if it got too clogged with reverse flow.
In your case, with an antidrainback valve, it might block the oil flow completely, or restrict the heck out of it.
I never studied how much of a transmission's oil flow goes through the filter and cooler.
I have always figured it was not the full amount that the pump put out simply due to the volume of the pump.
So, if the flow was totally stopped, I don't know what would happen. If its critical that the oil flow a certain way, I would assume that there would be arrows embossed on the filter housing.

There are arrows on the housing, but it's located up front. I worry that they reversed the line at the transmission housing.

In that case, your best bet is to check with someone here who knows how those lines hook up on the tranny and find out which is which.

I run Fords, so I'm no help at this point.

I think you can find that info on the TCI website,as to which hose is the return and feed,on various automatics..

If the filter has an anti dain back valve, fluid will not move through it backwards. That would screw things up.

I know which one is which, bottom is out, top is return and I know where each metal line goes in my set up...but THEY might not know and they told me they got them right but something tells me they didn't take the time to trace the lines to the filter because without the filter, the truck would function fine no matter how the lines were installed. If what ktmoutfront says is true, then maybe that's it. I will call again first thing tomorrow. but who knows...I am sure they know what they are doing, but I think I just want it to be a simple fix. They've had it for 8 weeks now. I am getting hysterical here :yikes:
