The remote starter kits I have installed recommend fuel injection I think because most carbed vehicles need to have the choke set by pressing the accelerator.

What do you think about remote starters set-ups in general? Is it worth any possible reduction in vehicle reliability?

I had one for my 99 silverado and i was so much of a pian to get around the passlock 2 or 3 system i said F*ck it.
first i had to send away for the bypass for the passlock then i had to muti meter all kinds of wires and figure out what resistance then i had to actually set the bypass that had all kinds of switches that had to be in a certain order for it to work..
It also needed me to hook up all kinds of relays and stuff
the furthest i got with it was having it started for like 5 seconds and then it died!
OVER RATED THEY ARE!
Just imagine that if it started your carbed vehicle and somehow it stalled out for some reason you would be in the same situation before you even had one.
My k5 doesnt like to stay running by itself you have to hack up your wires to get it to work properly not worth it at all

I'm sure it was a real pain on your 99, but I've installed 3 on late 80's, early 90's fuel injected vehicles and they were pretty straight forward installations. As I recall, I didn't actually cut any wires, the remote starter harness wired in parallel with the various circuits. I did have to buy some extra relays, but everything worked great after I was done.

Just let me know if you want some help. I have been installing auto electronics for the past 11 years. Happy to say I am done with it as a job since I sold the business earlier this month.
I wouldn't recomend one on a carbed vehicle. The only feasible way is with a electronic choke. No dangers with it but frustrating if it isn't reliable.
2High4U what bypass were you trying to use. The key to remote starts and the parts to install them is to get high quality items. I prefer DEI but there are other good brands out there. Stay away from Bulldog and the like. On your 99 silverado you should have had a DEI 556LW which is super simple to install. Only have to cut the pats wire, one end into the module, one out, a few power / ground / and triggers and it will read the factory pats code and duplicate it upon remote start. There is another way to do it by permentely disabling the factory security but I won't get into that because I do not recomend it.
