remote start

What have you guys used what works best? easiest install? Least expensive? Best quality? etc

I don't need an alarm with it but it seems like alot come with the alarm.

Its not going on any of my rigs on my 01 Pontiac Grand Prix

I had to have the dash harness replaced in my 99 due to bad wiring connections, and the computer couldn't recognize the starter unit correctly so it went to shutdown mode....took the system out, replaced the wiring harness, and no more problems...so be careful and very thorough about installation. Seems these security systems are very touchy about messing with wiring.

I've had an avistart with a viper alarm in the dd for 7 years. Only issues or complaints I've had were due to rewiring after I paid morons to install it. I've since learned theyre pretty darn simple and will install my own next time.

The newer gm stuff is a little tricky.

My suburban had a cheap audiovox keyless setup in it when i got it, and it was flawless. When the Alpine in my blazer died, i replaced it with the audiovox prestige remote start. Love it. Added on to the burb.

Bulldog is decent, but you will need the passlock module in order for it to work right.

My brother put one on his 91 chrysler, and he had nothing but trouble, couldn't figure out what was wrong with the car, then one day he took it all off and the car was fine so he ditched the remote start.
Can't remember what brand it was but it was an easy plug and play, no way he did something wrong.
Later we found out they warned on their website that it may interfere with some model's computers.

personally I would not buy anything buy DEI (who owns viper and MANY others) I worked in an install bay for five years and have done thousands of alams/remote starts. They can be quite tricky and take quite a bit of time to do. Even though I am an "OOH I can do that" king of guy I would recomend if you dont have much experence to have it professionally installed and have their word if it does not work properly they will make it right.

I was told the same thing about my daughters Nissan...they wouldn't install one.

I put one into my Duramax and it was really easy. I am running an Ultra Start I bought off eBay and a transponder bypass module I also found on eBay. It took a few hours to install cause I am extremely anal about wiring (you cannot see the starter from under the dash, all connections are made at connection pins and soldered, stupid scotch locks!)

Your grand prix would be about the same as my truck.
