I'd like to put remote start on my truck, 1990 V3500, TBI 454, auto. Does anyone have any input? I am confident that I should be able to install one of these myself. 1990 TBI truck is about as basic as it gets for modern vehicle electronics, and I have a bunch of scotch-locks. I searched, and only found one thread, from 4 years ago asking about a 2005 Pontiac.

Thanks!

PLEASE SIR STOP AND STEP AWAY FROM THE SCOTCH LOCKS . :deal:

find a basic simple kit and do step by step . there easy on our old stuff.

and best way is cut off section of insulation insert small pick and open up wire like EYE of sewing neddle .

run wire from kit in and split in half . then fold over and twist it up nice / neat . then little flux and solder .

wrap in fav tape and good . no cut / hack job and just fine install.

lot of newer stuff you can get T-harness kit for plug and play .

I'd just get an aftermarket alarm, like a Viper. I have remote start on my K5 and 06' Dodge cummins and love it. My Dodge has a Viper in it, all in one. Alarm with the remote start built into it. My K5 has an old system back when that wasn't an option, a Code alarm, and a separate module for the remote start.

Almost identical stuff on mine. Code alarm w/ remote start on my '89 K5. '05 Cummins has an Astrostart. If you have a shop install it, make sure they use factory wiring so there's nothing for thieves to see or cut.

I have an Audiovox prestige in my suburban, and it kicks ass. Id never liked the audiovox name, but the suburban had a cheap audiovox alarm on it when i got it, and it worked awesome.

If you are decent with 12v wiring, you'll be fine. Lots of wires, but take your time.

I also agree with staying away from the tap style connectors. That beings said, my memory tells me that most of the connectinos were cut and install between 2 sections of wire, and less tapping of wires.

Best of luck.
