Remove rear hatch and leave off......

Years ago before "station wagons" morphed into "SUVs" many had a small wind deflector at the very back just above the rear window.

It was designed to deflect fresh air across and down the back thus preventing exhaust fumes from coming inside when the rear glass was down. Actually it worked really well....(at least on the ones I rode in)

I don't think a small one would look too terribly bad if it was designed to kinda "blend" in?

I remember sitting in that back seat when I was in the single digit age range, me and my friends making faces at cars behind us.....getting yelled at by parents. Today the parents would be arrested and the kids put into some type of government 'care.'

Pulled out that top last night, looks pretty nice. I have some friends coming over tomorrow night to help lift off hard top. I also noticed my '72 marked it's territory in the new shop. I knew I had a rear main seal leak, so I keep cardboard under the engine, but now the transfer case has a pretty decent leak (not from the speedo, unfortunately). I actually think it's the rear part of the case where it mates with the 'center' of the case (excuse my ignorance, I have a lot to learn. I grew up wrenching on Chevys because my dad was a drag racer. I built quite a few cars when I was young, but it's been 25ish years......lots to learn). Anyway, this weekend I am going to power wash the transfer case and then drive around for a bit to try to id exactly where the leak is coming from. I plan to pull it all apart, but I will have to wait about a year.....during that time - I want to drive it!

Built a desk (plywood/2x4s) in the shop last night - dangerous. Brought in an old office chair we had in a shed....next thing I knew it was 10PM.....and there were a 'few' empty Silver Bullet cans on the desk. I just sat there thinking of all the options for my '72.......all the ideas/builds I see on here.....damn there are so many choices to make.

I am just going to throw it out there and Call BS on even there being a 72 Blazer as there are 43 posts to your name and no pictures of said Blazer(At least in this thread) Just sayin

Does anyone know anything about this soft top? No identifying marks/labels/tags. Found in box from PO.

I think it might be the same one I have. The company that made them isn't in business anymore but it's a nice top.
looks like you might be missing a few pieces, but nothing you couldn't make up yourself. I can help with pics if needed.

Looks like a kayline. Also looks like you're missing the angle bed rail pieces and the windshield strips unless they are connected to the top still. That is unless the first gens were different.

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. Ashman, if you don't mind, I would appreciate some pictures at your convenience. Yesterday I power washed the undercarriage and drove around for a while hoping I could ID the source of the transfer case leak......nothing. I hope it's not....empty!

The oil leak is weird. I know the rear main is leaking because when I lay under it running I can see the drops slowly form. However, there is also oil all over the starter and the front driveshaft. Is it just getting blown over there by the flywheel?

No snaps in front. Just pulled fill plug on transfer case - friggin tranny fluid started pouring out. Huh?

I should add, I had tranny rebuilt as soon as I bought it (December) before it went for a six month stay at the body shop (I told him to treat it as a side job as I did not have a shop yet).

No snaps so guess I was wrong, must be kayline. I had that trans fluid thing happen once when I first got my blazer. If I remember right seals between trans and TC were bad and it pushed thru. I only figured it out because trans fluid came out breather and made a mess on my rear window.

Yeah, pretty common for the seals to fail between the trans and TC. I know the TC can work fine on transmission fluid, but don't think it's good for the transmission to work on gear oil. My np205 has been running on transmission fluid for some time without problems, just need to make sure that your transmission stays topped off if you aren't going to fix it right away.

No hurry man, I'm not looking to use it right now, just want to start making/buying whatever I am missing, but no hurry to do that.

On a different subject, somebody had recommended (in a different thread) a place called drivetrain.com for transfer case/coupler parts - good people. I called today and ordered the seals/gaskets and the guy who answered the phone really knew his stuff. So damn rare today that it stands out! (kinda like common sense)

If the seals don't fix it check the tranny vent. Just went through this with mine. I actually decided to I've the vent into the engine bay, so I bought extra tubing and just coiled it up "temporarily".... Then the issues with lost tranny fluid kept happening. Week after week, so much that I eventually parked it. Fast forward a year or so, and many phone calls, internet searching, later....................

The coiled up tubing that i bought to vent the tranny was from the end of the roll, and crimped shut.:doah::doah::doah::doah:

One quick snip and it appears to be problem solved. I'm such an idiot. :waytogo:
