Okay all,

How do I remove the Park/Neutral Switch on a 1984 GMC Jimmy? I can't see any bolts holding it into the column, but can't figure out how to remove it...while the column is still in the truck, of course. If removing this switch requires removing/dissasembling the column...then I'll just leave the redneck bypass that the previous owner did in place. Would be a shame though, since this is one of the last pieces to complete the entire truck rewire...and everything else was done right... :-( The current switch doesn't have the leads for park neutral...but does have the leads for the reverse lights. Got a new switch already...but puzzled on how to remove.

Can anybody help me...without removing or disassembling the column? Just not willing to do that...again. (Note: I even checked the GM C/K Service Manual...all 1000+ pages of it...and no mention of how to remove this? They have how to adjust one already in there, but left out the important part...go figure)

Far as I recall it just comes off after removing the two screws that hold it on the colum....a new one might come with a alignment pin you remove after installing it..if a parts store has one,it might come with instructions on how to install it..

The replacement that I just installed yesterday just snapped into place, I think its a new design that did away with the screws.

How much force?

How much force did you need to remove the old one? Also, did you need to collapse the plastic arms a bit to get it in the column?

Thanks in advance...

There was not one on the truck to remove but to install the new one the plastic arms did snap down I to the slots. I would say that you would have to push in on each side to get it out.

got it! thanks all

Okay, I finally got it... Just had to pull the two rear tabs out from the column and the unit 'unsnapped' from the column. Just a lot more force required than I was expecting. New one is snapped in and ready to adjust.

Thanks all,
