Hi all,

I'm replacing the cat on my 89... exhaust is all
Stock I think.

I removed the clamps on each end, but now how do I get the darn thing out? It's real tight with no play that I can tell. I gave it a good amount of whacks with a brass hammer too.

Is there a trick to getting it out, or does everyone just cut the pipes on each end and then pry them out?

Thanks!

Gotcha, that's what a figured.

Then there's enough side to side play in the pipes to pop the new one in?

Probably not... Lol.

But get some reducer adaptors that fit around the OEM pipe, and into the new cat. Hold it all up, make good markings of where things will be slid in at the final position. Cut the old pipe to the marked length, and assemble and add u bolt clamps to every joint.

Or weld it if you have the resources.

If you didn't want to cut the pipes, you'd have to disconnect somewhere else and pull that whole end of the exhaust system out of the way. Even then, the dimpling of the pipes from clamps makes it very hard to remove. So the standard practice is to cut and then add in some new pipe later, as already covered.

The main problem is that you're in California. In this part of the country we just drive for a few winters, then the cat falls out on its own .
