Is there any way to do this?

I want to remove that nasty old ac box off my firewall to clean up the look a little and mount an air filter box in its place.

I only want to retain my heater for some of the cold nights out on the trail

Absolutely. Been done many times.

Pull the AC stuff and swap it for the Regular heat box. There will be some holes left but with a little bit of sheet metal and perhaps some cardboard for templates, you can block off the rest of the hole in the firewall.

Is it something I could make? Not in a hunting mood but wouldn't mind making something. Just cut the plastic and use some ca glue to seal it back off with sheet metal?

My feeble brain tells me that Classic Industries has that.... Okay, finally found it, part #14446 for '73 & up. $150 though!!!!

At the pick a part, the whole setup, outside and inside cost me $30. Even got the correct head unit.

I made a new housing for my blower motor and for my heater core. They bolt together and will mount under my dash behind the glove box. I just made several necks for hoses so that it will blow to the floor, windshield, and back window when I have the top on in the winter. I only ever use defrost on high, so I wont have any resistors or blend doors.

I wanted the firewall bare and narrower so I could narrow the front clip. I also wanted as much space inside for an amp and speakers and the cage. I also got rid of tons of vacuum line and wires.I didn't like where the heat only setup places the blower motor either.

I cut mine down and fiberglassed it.

just get a summit heater, rip it all out and be done...

yep, that is what I did, been working great for 6 years that way.

I have both going to 2 vents, if you get a y or make one, you can have one port go to the defrost, and the other port y off to the dash. I bought the duct kit as well...
